Diedre Casey | 21 comments I remember reading this when I was a kid the art was so smooth and airbrushed it must have been the early 90's when it was published the plot that I can remember is that somehow a duckling egg makes its way to a pigs diner where it will be cooked if the duck family can't rescue it. I have a very vivid image still in my mind of the fat pig cook wearing his spotted apron holding the egg with the silhouette of the baby duck visible and the pig has a nasty sneer on his face like he knows there's something inside it.

Did the story focus on the ducks rescuing the egg? Or, did it mainly focus on the pig's diner?
Part of a series?

Diedre, is this a children's picture book (about 32-48 pages) or chapter book?

Are the illustrations: simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like, painted watercolors or bold graphics, color or black-and-white? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or children's author?

I added few details to the header/ topic title. Feel free to edit it.

Ayshe | 4721 comments It sounds like the book searched here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and https://www.reddit.com/r/tipofmytongu... (both unsolved).

Capn | 3506 comments Could it possibly have been a goose and goose egg? Lots of "(Wild) Goose Chase" titles...

I tried "Eggscape", "Lucky Duck",and "Egg Hunt" and "Egg Chase", but didn't get very far.

Quacked? Duck, duck, goose?

Capn | 3506 comments Also quite a few "goose on the loose" titles...

children's and the the illustrations were soft-looking like they were air brushed

Rainbowheart | 28688 comments Diedre, did you rule out Detective Duckworth to the Rescue?

Other books involving egg rescue missions that I found were Happy Easter, Mother Duck, Case of the Missing Chick, and The Fuzzytail Friends' Great Egg Hunt.

Capn | 3506 comments The Robbery at the Diamond Dog Diner? :) Possibly not at all, but came up in a recent thread.

Capn | 3506 comments Still looking, Diedre? I found Starring Rosa. Seems like the focus is wrong (on the pig, not a duck), but, you know, just in case...
Starring Rosa by Otto Coontz

Also Gumshoe Goose, Private Eye

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5545 comments Valerie might be looking for the same book, although they remember the chef being a weasel rather than a pig, so perhaps they're different books: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Valerie | 5 comments Yes! I am looking for this book. now that you mention pigs, something clicked in my memory. I definitely do have the graphic image of the baby silhouetted inside the egg. I believe the illustrations were watercolor. But they were very vivid and complex, although I agree, soft and pretty as described above. the end of the book has the baby egg hatching in the nursery and I remember the nursery having bows? and eyelashes in the new duckling. I also remember the diner or the cook being greasy and kind of gross? Like a close up detail of bubbling pots and grime or steam?

Valerie | 5 comments Perhaps I am confusing Pigs with the weasel fry cook. Or maybe pigs owned the diner, but the cook was a weasel. I remember the weasel had a gross greenish sallow appearance.
