Fantasy Book where two people burrow in a tree and come out centuries later

Hi all! I’m wondering if anyone can help identify a book I read ages ago. It’s a fantasy, the only thing I can vividly recall is there was a young woman and some type of mythical person/creature who was protecting her. He found (or created) a hole at the base of a large tree and burrowed for an extravagant amount of time trying to get away from the threat. When they finally came out from underground it have been something like 100 or 1000 years and they ended up coming out at the exact same tree. I Feel like it was part of a series and have always wanted to re-read the book and if it is a series start at the beginning.

This might be Rhapsody by Elizabeth Hayden.

That had the tunnelling under the tree you remember, and there are 2 more books in the series I think.
