Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments Please change Blood Hunter's (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...) series number to #9.5 in the Kat Drummond Series.
https://www.goodreads.com/series/2778...

Thank you!

It appears to be a novel-length entry. Only shorts and novellas get decimals in series on Goodreads.

Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments Are there any alternatives to be able to get it ordered after 9 and before 10? Because it's not a part of the series, but that is the advised reading order. Kinda like the spin-offs of the Kate Daniels series.

If it's meant to be read in that order, in what way is it not part of the series? This seems to be an issue with the one currently (incorrectly) numbered as 14.5 as well. If they are part of the reading order, I suggest their numbering on Goodreads indicate that. So Blood Hunter as #10, current 10 becomes 11, etc. And 14.5 would be 16.

If you prefer, we can remove the spinoff books from this series, and create a second series called something like The Katverse which includes all the books from this series and the spinoffs, and only there have the numbering as I just suggested.

Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments It's a prequel following a major side-character. It can technically be read in any order but books 10 onwards have spoilers for it. So best to be read before then.

That sounds like a good idea! If it is not too much trouble, please could you implement your Katverse idea? It would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Just to be sure we are all on the same page, you are agreeing that we remove Blood Hunter and the current 14.5 from the existing series, and creating a Katverse series with the alternate numbering I suggested?

message 8: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments Would it be possible to maintain Blood Hunter and Werewolves & Wizardry as spin-offs/related content (like they are now), in addition to a new Katverse Series listing? Can something be in two series at once?

Yes, but the numbering issue would remain. Full-length books cannot have decimal numbering.

I also don't see the point of having two series with the same list of books, unless they have a different order.

message 10: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments It would just be simpler if full-length books could have decimal numbering. Why is this not the case?

Because that is not Goodreads policy. We reserve decimals for novellas and shorts.

Please see https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

message 12: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments That policy seems to say that novellas must use decimals, not that only novellas/short stories can use decimals.

But also, I asked "Why" that is the case. I know you didn't set the policy, but it should still be important to understand why a rule is in place. Rules aren't rules just because they're rules. They need a reason. A purpose.

I can see no real reason that a full-length novel spin-off cannot receive a decimal. It just seems arbitrary.

Scott | 9549 comments Because novels are considered primary works.

message 14: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments That still doesn't seem like a valid reason, though.

Also, Gunmental Magic of the Kate Daniels Series is a full-length novel and listed as #5.5.

Why is this a policy? It doesn't seem to serve any real purpose.

If you dislike the policy, you are welcome to email in via the Contact Us link. Meanwhile, we need to fix the series to meet Goodreads standards.

message 16: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Woode-Smith (zaggeta) | 87 comments I will do that. I know you can't change it. But I do feel that if enough librarians got together to protest the weird policy, it would sort out a lot of problems.

Please just have Blood Hunter and Werewolves & Wizardry as additional, unnumbered content on the Kat Drummond Series page. I will let the blurbs describe the reading order.
