August Reads:
1. Rwanda - Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed - This book had a lot of different chapters about different societies, including Rwanda. During 1994-1995, I was very busy graduating from university and working full time, and I did not keep up to date on what was going on in the world. The Rwandan Genocide happened at that time, and I'm embarrassed to say that I did not know much about the politics nor I did even understand the different ethnicities (Hutu, Tutsi and Twa). For that reason, those chapters stuck with me, so I will count this book as Rwanda.
2. UK - Gallant
3. Tonga - The Happy Isles of Oceania: Paddling the Pacific. It was about a lot of different countries that I don't have on my Around the World Challenge. Because I have chosen to count each book for either a state or a country, and only one country, but one which I get to select, I selected Tonga for this book, since the author had an audience with the King of Tonga and the differentiation between that country and others in Oceania has stuck with me.

September Reads:
1. UK - Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman
2. Finland - Upheaval: Turning Points for Nations in Crisis This book was about a lot of different places, but the chapters that stuck with me the most were the ones about Finland and its relationship with Russia. I had known there were border skirmishes, but never truly understood why Finland (and Austria) never would join NATO. This book helped me understand both the dependency and the strength that the Finns have in their relationship with Russia.
3. Canada - The Blue Castle
4. Marshall Islands - PACIFIC Silicon Chips and Surfboards, Coral Reefs and Atom Bombs, Brutal Dictators, Fading Empires, and the Coming of the World's Superpowers. - 3 stars This book was set in many countries, but I was most drawn to the part set in the Marshall Islands so I'm counting it for that country. (Unfortunately, I was so upset about some of the information in the book, I had to pause reading...and I already had read a book set in the Marshall Islands...so that was a disappointment, I was hoping to use the book for another country.) At least I liked it better than the book I'd read before, so there's that. :-)

It's such a great way to travel! I can't believe I'm over halfway done with the countries, without really making a concerted effort. Maybe I will be more planned out after I catch up on a few other challenges.
