After hitting her head particularly hard one day, Duke Claes' daughter, Katarina, suddenly recalls all the memories of her past life: that of a teenage Japanese girl. Just before her untimely death, this girl recalls playing an otome game... that is exactly like the world she's living in now!

She is now Katarina Claes, the antagonist of the otome game, who nastily hounded the protagonist until the end. Knowing all the possible outcomes of the game, she realizes that every single possible route ends with Katarina being murdered or exiled! In order to avoid these Catastrophic Bad Ends, she has to use her knowledge of the game and her own wiles, starting with breaking off this engagement with the prince...

Will Katarina survive while making her way through this world, where bad flags trip at every turn? Find out in this reverse-harem rom-com, led by everybody's favorite villainess!

So this was probably one of my favorite light novels that I read last year, so I look forward to seeing what you guys all think of it as well. :) This one was a hoot.

Yeay, I really hoped it would become Bakarina since it was already on my "Want to read" list :D

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) | 1602 comments Mod
This one is a pretty quick read, so I made the first week ~66 pages (longer than the 40-50 pages I usually plan on per week).

Hope you all enjoy Bakarina shenanigans!

I finally found the time to read the first two chapters and it was as expected hilarious :D

What I especially appreciated with this light novel is the POV swaps in each chapter so you can see just how weird Katatrina's being in each chapter.

Howard | 91 comments Finally started today and finished off the first four chapters, it's just as funny as I have heard. I do love the "I know the story line so I'll just adjust it" genre. I love how it always goes horribly wrong.

I find this one particularly funny in the adjusted storyline genre. Katarina's cluelessness about her changes and the back up plans to her back up plans are just *chef kiss*

Michael (g-nitro) Read this first volume last year, and really liked that the light novel expanded on view points of other characters compared to the anime. I really need to read the rest... so many light novels to read. O_O

Saaaame. I've read 1-3, and while I think the third is a little weaker than the first two, it's still in the upper tiers of light novels I've read :)

Quantum (quantumkatana) | 250 comments So far, amusing. Finished where they got officially engaged.

I really like the slow pace. Each new character got its own chapter so far.

I read the chapter with the beautiful siblings and it was again awesome. I like how Katharina influences the people around here without knowing and realizing it^^
But her poor mother ^^''

It is funnier than I expected!

I finished the book today and it really was hilarious and awesome :D
I directly bought the next volumes ^^

Gotta ask: who was your favorite character? And if you like shipping, who do you ship Katerina with with this volume's end?

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

Next to Katarina, my favorite female character is Mary and from the males it's Keith ^^

For the shipping question: I think I would ship her with Mary, since it would be really funny to see how Katarina realizes that Mary's feelings are not just platonic :D

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) | 1602 comments Mod
Katarina's a given as the favorite lol

Of the supporting cast, I absolutely love Sophia and she is my choice of Katarina ship. Especially with revelations in volume 2 that I will withhold because spoilers :)

Of the male side of the cast, it's probably Alan. He's just so... clueless? Yeah, let's go with clueless :3c

Quantum (quantumkatana) | 250 comments Wow, I really cried in Keith's secondary character’s POV chapter. Of course it was a trope, but Yamaguchi uses an excellent slightly older voice looking back and that voice is also in the Victorian style (not sure if I got the period right), but not as elegant and not as objective—so it flows quite well.

Howard | 91 comments When it comes to ships I will have to say Mary by far with a second of Nicol. I would also like to add that my favorite section of the book was Anne's. Her back story and character development is amazing and wonderful at the same time.

For male I would also say Alan, I like it how clueless he is about his own feelings and also the others.

Quantum (quantumkatana) | 250 comments I will likely buy the next one, but what's with ending the book without really ending the final scene?

I would ship Katerina with Keith--he's her stalwart defender.

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) | 1602 comments Mod
My guess is that the ending is because of the original serial publication online. I'm not sure how much it was updated for print release. It could be that for the print run they just split things up where it makes the most sense and the scene wasn't changed much from the serialized version.

message 24: by Michael (new)

Michael (g-nitro) I'll toss in another Sophia vote. She's my favorite. If it had to be male, probably Alan or Keith.

I read the 9 vols to date of the manga in April 2024 and quite enjoyed the series.
I remember seeing the anime and enjoying it. The original 2020? show was quite funny.
There are 14 LNs in Japanese and 10 Manga volumes in Japanese plus 3 side story volumes. (as of 10/2024). I should go look for the last manga vol to see if it is translated yet.
