YA/ Adult Fantasy book with a prologue that includes a mage and a fae forbidden love (possible hardcore Romance book). Found in 2020.

I only read the prologue but here is what I remember:

It’s starts with a man and a woman sitting by a lake. The woman is dangling her feed in the water and reading a book while they hold hands. From the conversation they are having it seems it is a forbidden romance as he is a magician who might become a mage (but doing so would make him evil?). She wants him too though as it would mean they could be together as she is fae and considered beneath him. Suddenly his mom (the warden?) of their world burst into the clearing and starts yelling at him and attacking them with magic since he is going behind her back meeting with the fae woman. He starts to defend them by putting up a wall and water or ice and throwing ice at his mom and telling the fae woman to run. That he loves her but she has to run away and never come back as his mom will kill her. Finally the woman runs and the mom overpowers her son and the prologue ends.

Is this book for adults? (YA = teens, in this group)

I’m not sure if it was considered young adult or adult which is why I added both.

Also I’ve never read the book, I only read a sample in November of 2020 :(

I remember a bit more. I think the chapter after the prologue went right into a pretty steamy romance scene where the boy from the lake is now the warden mage and because he became a mage a part of his soul was taken? So he’s darker now than before? Also i found it in November 2021 not 2020, had a typo
