SOLVED. YA main characters parents are frozen in time in meadow? [s]

I read this book about 7 years ago so the details are a bit hazy and may also be confused with other books/ dreams that I've had but as far as I can remember it was a story about this kid, I can't remember if it was a boy or a girl but I think it was a boy. There is magical elements to the story, something maybe to do with some kind of royal prosession and maybe something to do with old magic (like Merlin etc). The main thing I remember about the story is that the child's parents are kidnapped or tricked into either a large room or some kind of outdoor meadow where other prisoners are being kept frozen in time like statues with some kind of magic and/or hypnosis, I'm pretty sure they are aware of their surroundings whilst in that state. The story then moves on to the child trying to get their parents freed. One of the main things I remember is the front cover which i think was mainly yellow and orange with flames and some kind of Phoenix (or dragon) rising from it (not the order if the Phoenix). I know that's very little to go on but I thought id try, thanks in advance for any suggestions,
