I've made it through all the team threads once, so I should be able to post the tallies from Date 1 tomorrow. 🤞🏼It was a big pile to work my way through, but I see light at the end of the tunnel and I'm pretty sure it's not a train.
Congrats to those who earned the special roses for Date 1!Speed Dating Rose - Team 3: We Caught Him Book, Line & Reader

I'm leaning no, but if you want to send me the book I can give you a firm answer.
☘KathyD☘ wrote: "hey Kat...would an ER doctor be considered a first responder?"I had actually looked into this before you asked, doctors and nurses are not considered first responders. I think it is primarily because they aren't out in the field.

fair enough! thank you! =)
Just to double-check - Merry Cherry Christmas will not work for alliteration...Thanks Kat
Checking cos I thought I'd seen some books claimed along those non-sounding lines (but based on the letter), but subsequently further books (different) were disqualified...

edit - I don't mind either way, but just wanted to know for this book :)

It starts with the same letter, so it would work. It has to be the same sound or the same letter. I don't believe I've DQed any that started with the same letter, in fact I can't think of any books I haven't allowed for Alliteration.
(Though, I wouldn't be surprised to be wrong either as crazy as life has been!)

Maybe I misread a post? I haven't gone back to check... (too lazy! and just wanted to go with whatever was correct.)
Thanks!
Uh-oh, Kat I just finished Super Sock Man (first Kindle edition, but it's a 2nd edition... When I went to post it, I saw it was originally a 9 page story for the MMRG: Super Sock Man. Am I outta luck?

The earliest dated English language Kindle edition is dated March 21, 2012 and has 129 pages. 😊

Date 3 - C - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 3.Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.
Don't make more work for yourself than necessary - if the qualifier is in the title or on the cover, use it! You don't have to go searching for tags to make it work. 😊 If the link you use for the book is the same you are using for the page count and edition - say so (see above edition or something similar)! That saves us all some steps. But please double check your links!
You may use separate editions of your Scavenger Hunt books to qualify for the different tasks. Links MUST be provided.
C is for Cat - Read a book featuring shifters.
To qualify, your book needs to include in the title, precis, list or tags 'shapeshifter', 'shifter', or 'were-something'.
C is for ??? - ???
To be revealed when the date begins.
C is for Class - Read a book with formal wear on cover.
To qualify for this task, the cover of your selected books need to show model/s in formal wear. For men, think tux or suit and tie. For women, formal dress or ball gown. Period or social equivalents will be acceptable.
C is for Crave - Read a book numbered 4 or higher in numbered series listed on GR.
To qualify for this task, books must numbered 4 or higher in a numbered series listed on GR. Series without order or numbers will not be allowed.
For Class if its a man on the cover, do they have to have a tie on or can it just be button up and suit coat? And, in the alternative, is it okay if it's a button up and tie no coat?
Amanda wrote: "For Class if its a man on the cover, do they have to have a tie on or can it just be button up and suit coat? And, in the alternative, is it okay if it's a button up and tie no coat?"It is going to depend a lot on context. If the male is in a tux, but has loosened the tie - that would more than likely work. A man in a shirt and tie, like he would wear to work in an office, if probably not going to work. It needs to be formal wear, not casual or office wear.
OK, a few clarifications for Class. For books set in contemporary times - a male model needs to have a jacket and tie. The tie can be loosened or undone, but it needs to be there. It can not be casual wear, for example a jacket and tie over jeans. For a female model, you need to be able to see enough of what she is wearing to know it is formal. So a picture that just shows her from the waist up in what could be a formal dress or could just be a tank top is not going to work.
For Historical Romance, I need to see that the form of dress is more than their everyday style. In the regency period is fairly easy - and a lot of those books have ball gowns on the cover. For other periods, just something that shows what the model is wearing is fancy - lace or beading or something. Also, they need to be clothed - not draped in fancy bedding.
PNR or UF will have some leeway towards what fits for the world they are set in.
Hi MKat, I'm going to try and fit all my PIA questions into one message.
For formal wear I have three questions:
1 - for a female, would a bridal gown work? I am thinking of the following covers:
2- for a man, would you consider a back to the camera shot which shows him in a full suit? The covers I am thinking of are the Mister series by JA Huss
3- this one I'm assuming is a hard "no" but wanted to check. No silhouettes for either the female or the male formal wear - correct? Such as on these covers:
My last question has to do with Steampunk, but I believe mentioned that you would be refining those with the date call tomorrow. Which means I can and will hold on that one.
Thanks for letting me be nit picky and annoying!
Couple of questions about formal wearIf the male is in a suit and tie and the precis mentions a wedding, can I assume it is formal wear and not work related?
If the female is in a little black dress (rather than a long gown) and in precis it mentions she is on a cruise where formal wear is often worn in the evening, can I assume it is formal wear?
How do we know if the suit and tie is for work or not? If a doctor has a suit on but no white coat is it formal wear? I am having trouble on what suit is formal wear because how would we know if it was worn for work or not?
Sorry to add to the formal wear questions, but would a military dress uniform count? Dress uniforms may be required for work occassions, but are often worn to military balls, weddings, etc. Thanks!
I don't have time to answer specific covers right now - I have tons of books to check still!Don't overthink it and use the guidelines I gave above and you will likely be ok.
Some generic answers - a formal wedding dress would work. If the cover only shows the back, it needs to be clear and obvious what the model is wearing. A silhouette would work, but again it needs to be clear and obvious what clothing the cover is depicting. Steampunk, PNR, UF and dystopia - what is being worn needs to be formal in those worlds - not everyday clothing.
As for whether something is work related or not - again, don't overthink it. Something like a white coat or stethoscope is obvious, but also look at the setting on the cover and things like that.
Hi all, I just wanted to let you all know that I am having difficulty opening pages. Not sure if it is GR or my browser/computer, but I am struggling to check books. So far I am only current on Teams 9 and 10, I will keep trying to check more tonight.I am away from home all day tomorrow - yes, I will be posting the next date from my phone again so keep your fingers crossed it works like it should. Because of this and my difficulties tonight checking books, I will extend the deadline for corrections to 24 hours after I finish checking your team thread. Once I comment on your team thread, that is when the clock will start. If it is just an emoji - no corrections are needed. If I ask for corrections, you will have 24 hours to make them.

C is for Cat - Read a book featuring shifters.
To qualify, your book needs to include in the title, precis, list or tags 'shapeshifter', 'shifter', or 'were-something'.
C is for Celebrate - Read a book with a birthday, wedding, or some other celebration or party.
To qualify, the book needs to include a major celebration such a wedding, birthday or holiday party. Qualification could come from the title, precis, tags or lists.
C is for Class - Read a book with formal wear on cover.
To qualify for this task, the cover of your selected books need to show model/s in formal wear. For men, think tux or suit and tie. For women, formal dress or ball gown. Period or social equivalents will be acceptable.

For Class, if on the cover are 2 or more people but only one is formal (for example a couple where the girl has a formal dress but the boy is shirtless) will count?
Would this be enough or does wedding actually have to be said?Dex and Sloane will have plenty of bullets to dodge on the way to the altar, but with happiness within their grasp, they are determined to get there come hell or high water.
Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "Would this be enough or does wedding actually have to be said?Dex and Sloane will have plenty of bullets to dodge on the way to the altar, but with happiness within their grasp, they are determin..."
This one was tagged by 6 people as wedding, so I think that would have it qualify.
Sorry! Ignore this -- the novella is too short.
Truitt_T wrote: "Just to clarify, MKat - for Celebrate, quoting from the text is NOT sufficient, correct? Thanks!"
Correct, there is no way for me to check that. It has to be something here on GR like precis, title, tags or lists.
R~wka wrote: "For Class, if on the cover are 2 or more people but only one is formal (for example a couple where the girl has a formal dress but the boy is shirtless) will count?"As long as one person is in formal wear, it would work.
Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "Would this be enough or does wedding actually have to be said?Dex and Sloane will have plenty of bullets to dodge on the way to the altar, but with happiness within their grasp, they are determin..."
That would work, but tags are always good confirmation and leave no doubt.
Chan wrote: "Hi Kat. Team 3 Book, Line & Reader would like to claim the speed dating rose please."I'll get to this as soon as I can - might be a while yet though.
Naomi wrote: "Do novellas count that are for example 4.5, 7.5?"Oops, nearly missed this one. In between novellas will work as long as they otherwise qualify - page count, MPG Romance, etc.
Heather wrote: "I have a book that's listed as #4 on Amazon but #3.5 on GR. Any chance it could be counted for a SH rose if I give you a link to the Amazon listing?Sorry! Ignore this -- the novella is too short."
Just wanted to answer this in case it comes up again - use the number on GR. That is where I will check and use to determine if the book qualifies.

Yes, a law enforcement tag would work. The retired was a problem.
