SOLVED. Children's Sci-Fi book where “loser” kid is sent to space to compete in games to save Earth. [s]

Pretty sure the name is “[first name] Storm” but I can’t remember he first word.
It is based in the far future where everyone now lives on floating cities because everything is covered in water. The main character is the result of an experiment to see what would happen if every race on earth was combined and he is pretty much a disappointment to everyone involved and a loser on earth. Then earth is asked to participate in a galaxy wide tournament where the loser gets there planet destroyed. The main character and the supposed best kids in the world get chosen to represent earth and they go to space. Turns out the main character is actually the best in space even though he performed the worst on earth. There is lots of Star Wars-like challenges, like lightsabers dueling, space ship piloting, and what is basically the force. There is also a “walk the plank” thing where every step you take on it shows you worse stuff and it’s pretty much impossible to get to the end.
