Patrick | 1 comments I'm not sure where or when I hear about this book, but a plotpoint was that in the world there is instant interstellar or planetary travel, but if you open your eyes (or something similar) during it you go insane. The MC and his wife and son are taking this mode of travel (perhaps for his work? Not sure). They are put into separate rooms for the journey and when he arrives he wishes to see his son. He is being ushered out and sees his son thrasing about, presumably because he opened his eyes during the journey and went insane. I'm not sure if this is the main plot or just a small event in the overall book, but I would appreciate it more than anything if anyone could help me out.
Thank you

SamSpayedPI | 2306 comments The Jaunt, a short story by Stephen King, collected in Skeleton Crew.

I hear it's been optioned for a movie: https://gizmodo.com/stephen-kings-tel... but that was more than five years ago.

Andy Phillips | 240 comments I literally just read The Jaunt (as suggested by Sam above) and it reminded me of this post. I would say it's very likely this short story. I found the complete text online, if you want to check. The summary by Patrick is basically the whole book (other that a sort of told-in-flashback version of how the technology was invented). The only difference is that the family (father, mother, son, daughter) are all in the same room when they 'teleport'.
