Oleander | 8 comments I feel like a lot of people in this group will relate to this for obvious reasons, but there's a lot of MG books i love which some people would consider me "too old for" as a teenager. Midnight at the Barclay Hotel, The Mutant Mushroom Takeover, Scouts, Zita the Spacegirl.. I could go on. Really anything with 11-to-12-year-old main characters could fall under this category.

So what are your thoughts? I'd love to hear your favorite books that you're "too old for"!

Aeriell Castleman | 204 comments When I was in middle school I fell in love with the Warrior Cat series by Erin Hunter. I still continue to collect to them and feel too old for them as they are middle grade books. Though as the newer books have came out they have gotten into darker themes in the stories so I might pick them up again.

finn (frogadventures) | 105 comments I read middle grade books all the time when I am looking for a book that is a bit shorter and more innocent, and I get quite a bit of judgement from my other reader friends 😅. My favorites are Ella Enchanted and the Land of Stories series.

I feel like a good MG book should be timeless really. If it's written well enough then you're never too old to read and enjoy it! I mean we classify them as "middle grade" but at the end of the day they're just well-written, enjoyable books!

Kacie I absolutely love middle grade books! I guess they'd all be considered too old for...I mean I can legit find them in the elementary school library that I volunteer at. but I don't care. I love them so much

@Kacie that’s the spirit! Love what you love! That’s basically the embodiment of the entire reason I set up this group. To bring together a bunch of people “too old” to read middle grade books but who did it anyway😂👏🏻

Becky (rebeccastutzmangmailcom) | 3 comments There are so many middle grade novels and graphics that I read and love- there are great lessons for all ages to be taught in these books. Middle grade books are written by adults, with adult characters in them, that help us to understand the book and realize we can all learn kindness through the lens of a child. Some of my favorites are anything by Kate DiCamillo, The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate , Once Upon a Camel by Kathy Appelt, Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper, New Kid by Jerry Craft and everything Raina Telgemeier.

Oleander | 8 comments I'm glad to hear I hit the nail on the head of this group's spirit despite being so new! I'm sure to mine this thread for book recs in the near future once i've gotten through my current list.

message 15: by Arrash (new)

Arrash Mazdai | 3 comments The World According to Humphrey and its sequels. I may no longer believe that Humphrey was a real hamster able to write on a small notepad his shenanigans, but I feel a rush of nostalgia and glee every time I reread the books.

To a lesser extent the HTTYD book series. While it's one of (if not) my favourite series, I think it's aimed at a slighter older audience so less fits the bill.
