Thanks
Sara wrote: "My friend, Megan, and I are reading Crossing to Safety starting on July 15th. Just in case anyone might want to join us."Sara, I would like to join you, Megan, and Lorraine for your buddy read of "Crossing to Safety." It's been on my TBR for years.
Well, okay then. I guess we can keep Midnight on the buddy read list. There is more interest than I originally thought. August it is!
Aprilleigh and I will read The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel in July. Everyone else invited too, but even if not, would you please add it to the buddy read schedule, Sara?

Sara wrote: "My friend, Megan, and I are reading Crossing to Safety starting on July 15th. Just in case anyone might want to join us."Lori, Terris and I were going to read it at the end of August but I don't think anyone got around to putting it as a buddy read so I may be in for July 15th If my schedule ever clears up.

Yes, I had Crossing to Safety down for August, but I think I can join the July buddy read. It should be a good "pre-discussion" before my book club reads it for our September meeting. I'm glad there is this much interest. I'm excited!
Starting on July 15 will give us 2 extra weeks to read it, Terris and Sue! So glad this is happening!
Lori wrote: "Starting on July 15 will give us 2 extra weeks to read it, Terris and Sue! So glad this is happening!"I'm so glad it works for everyone! I've been wanting to get to this for so long.

Me too! The lady who picked it for our book club was thinking of changing her choice, and I begged her not to! I was so looking forward to it! So she didn't ;) Yay!

Just a note that there is a July thread for Welcome to Hard Times by E.L. Doctorow and that anyone is most welcomed to join. It has been a long while since the initial discussion of this plan to read, so I wanted to make sure the information was out there.
And don´t forget to join the July read of The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel for which Sara has also made a thread. :)
I’m surprised that Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil won the poll for this month. So, I guess the buddy read is off. But I hope I see all of you in the group read!
I have removed Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil from the buddy reads schedule. Hope everyone shows up for the Group read, which begins August 1st.
Beginning September 15th, there will be a buddy read of The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery. So far, myself, Lori and Carolien are in. As always, everyone is welcomed to join.
I'm so excited that Paula Jiles' new book Chenneville: A Novel of Murder, Loss, and Vengeance comes out Sept 15! Is anyone interested in reading it in Oct, Nov or Dec? I'm going to buy it because I like owning her books.

I am a slow reader , so I could start in the beginning of September , while you , Lori and Carolien could join in the middle of September ? Also , since Rabbit Run is scheduled for October I am hoping to finish Blue Castle in September .

(this book is like a good old friend - I know its weaknesses and still like it)

Absolutely, Savita. I will change it on the schedule in case others want to start early.
Saba - glad you will join. It will be a new one for me. I have read the Anne series only and been promising myself something else of Montgomery for a long while.

On August 15, I am anticipating the release of Patti Hartigan's August Wilson: A Life and it prompts a desire to finish the century cycle of Wilson's plays, with titles viewable under the author's goodread site: August Wilson. I wish to start my read in September and have not decided on whether to read the plays in publication or chronological order, but want to read one or two per month. Is there interest from anyone to read along?
Sam wrote: "On August 15, I am anticipating the release of Patti Hartigan's August Wilson: A Life and it prompts a desire to finish the century cycle of Wilson's plays, with titles viewable und..."Sounds interesting, Sam. I have read five of the century cycle books (#1, 3, 4, 5, & 6) and am interested in reading the others -- sometime. I'm not sure (though they are short) I can fit more into my reading schedule this year. If you get a "buddy read" together I may be able to chime in or read one or two with you. Good luck and enjoy!

Would anyone be interested in reading A Defense of Poetry by Percy Bysshe Shelley in either September or October?
Cynda wrote: "Would anyone be interested in reading A Defense of Poetry by Percy Bysshe Shelley in either September or October?"If you read it in October. I'll join in.
Thanks Sam :-) Sara, may Sam and I have an October buddy read thread for A Defense of Poetry by Percy Bysshe Shelley. Perhaps others might like to join us.
Sam wrote: "One place I have decided to revisit through literature is Big Sur, California and one of the authors linked to the area is Lillian Bos Ross. I thought of her as a possibility for a group read since her trilogy topic seems a favorite of the group, being about the frontier, settlers, the west, etc. The first book in the now-named Big Sur Trilogy, is called The Stranger, first published in 1942."I wanted to get back on this and am requesting a buddy read for October for Big Sur Trilogy: Part I - The Stranger, Lillian Bos Ross for anyone who wants to join in.

This was August Wilson's first written and published play of the Century Cycle and a good introduction to Wilson for anyone considering joining in. Subsequent plays will follow either the written order or the chronological order depending on the will of whoever joins to read and we will read one play per month.
Sara if you can make any sense out of my posts, I am request a buddy read August Wilson Century Cycle marathon starting with Jitney in September and another buddy read for Big Sur Trilogy: Part I - The Stranger, by Lillian Bos Ross starting in October. Thanks in advance.

Terris wrote: "Sam wrote: "Sam wrote: "On August 15, I am anticipating the release of Patti Hartigan's August Wilson: A Life and it prompts a desire to finish the century cycle of Wilson's plays, ..."Great! These plays are quite short and shouldn't take much time. I am looking forward to the later impact when I've read and digested a few.
I have added all three to the schedule and will set up the thread for Jitney when GR decides it suits them to allow me. 🤯
Sam wrote: "Following up on my earlier post, I am requesting a buddy read for an August Wilson Century Cycle Marathon starting in September with Jitney...."Sam, I would like to join you and Terris in reading Jitney in September. I've read two of his plays, The Piano Lesson and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, and saw the movie "Fences." They have all been excellent.
Did the The City Of Trembling Leaves buddy read for Sept get cancelled? I don't see it.I was going to say that I wouldn't be able to join now because I'm too behind this year but I am still interested in reading it at some point.
I'm sorry, Sue, it did. I hadn't realized you weren't queried before it was taken down. The consensus was that we still want to read it, but that the timing just wasn't going to work for us, so it is tabled for a while. I'm glad that works for you, because I would feel very guilty if you had been planning it for so long and then just found it removed!
It put myself a reminder to ask again in January.
