(view spoiler)[ it’s pointing at some economic problem they are facing. I think the mother’s new novel is not going great. So she’s trying to promote herself in that scene. Also, she wanted that ‘glory’ I think, of showing herself as an accomplished author

That’s why the daughter is uncomfortable, because she’s being kind of…cheap.

That’s also why they are moving from place to place. Because they are struggling . That’s also why the daughter is jealous.
They are Economically struggling but the mother still isn’t ready to leave her lavish lifestyle
