Welcome to the next Around the Year in 52 Books seasonal challenge. Our Winter challenge starts on December 1, 2021 and finishes on February 28, 2022.

This season, we are tackling an A-Z challenge!

How It Works
For this challenge, you will be trying to fulfill the letters in the following phrase: SNOWFLAKES FALLING

You can fulfill these letters by using the first letter of the title, the first letter of the author's first or last name, or the first letter of the main genre of the book.

Example:
- W: What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli (Title)
- I: Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue (Author's First Name)
- N: Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng (Author's Last Name)
- T: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (Genre: Thriller)

How to join the challenge
1. Set up a thread to keep track of your books for the challenge. You can create a new thread for your challenge in this folder: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
You can also check out the Community Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

2. When you’ve completed all of the letters for the phrase, post the details in this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

What books can be counted?
Generally books should be 100 pages or more, but if you’ve found the perfect book and it’s 90 pages then it’s your choice whether to count it. Or, if you’re really stuck on one task and you want to read a picture book or short story just to mark it as complete then go right ahead. The aim is to have fun and enjoy what you read, so nobody is going to judge anyone else for their book choices.

If you have any questions about the challenge then you can post them in this thread. The FAQs in post two below will also be updated as people ask questions so you might find your question has been answered there.

Happy reading, and we hope you enjoy the challenge!

FAQs

Q: Can a book count for more than one of the categories?
A: No, each book can only fulfill a letter once.

Q: Is it acceptable to use the first letter of the second word if the title starts with "The"?
A: Yes! You can skip A, An, and The in the first word of the title.

Q: If the book has multiple authors, can you use any of them?
A: Yes!

Q: How do you define the genre?
A: Rule of thumb would be that it's a genre on the main page when you search the book on Goodreads, but it's up to your interpretation.

LeahS | 1401 comments Hello, I understand that if you doing just the 17 prompts, you can't double up on books. However, if you are trying to do 17 titles, 17 author's names and 17 genres, can you transfer between those?

Totally up to you, Leah! If you want to double up on books across different "challenges" so to speak, then you definitely can.

Lauconn | 63 comments Hi! Looking forward to this, as always, and thanks for all the work that goes into them!

Just one quick question/note: it looks like not all the letters are showing up on the spreadsheet - it only goes to "snowflakes fall"

Thank you! I'm pretty sure I meant it to say SNOWFLAKES FALL, but put FALLING on this thread because I was rushing... So I'll go update the spreadsheet lol

Ha! I only noticed because the books I went to enter today started with "I" and "G"... ;)
