Sforster | 21 comments I read this book in the 1970's and I think it was new when I received it. I always thought the title was La Rico The flying Pony, but I cannot find anything with the title, so I must be wrong. Spoilers in plot synopsis below.
A young girl loves horses, but she lives in a high rise building in a big city. One day she receives a pony with wings as a birthday present. He is named LaRico. The family keeps him in a stable on the roof. The pony is a rare wild species from South America, magically tamed with a golden halter. Everything is wonderful until the pony gets sick from city smog, so they take him back to the Andes. It is all good again. Then some people figure out LaRico exists and want him so the girl takes off the magic golden halter and lets the pony go.
Do you know the real title so I can find it? I read the book in New Zealand, so it might be Australian or European in origin.

I knew this one, because I had it solved for me on here too! Great book, and I found a copy on Better World Books, and it's now in my permanent library.

Rainbowheart | 28711 comments It looks super cute!

I also found The Sun Horse during my search, which you might also enjoy if you like fantasies about flying horses.

As a child/teenager, if it had a horse in it, I read it! The Sun Horse does look good, I'll give it a go.

Sforster | 21 comments Wow!!! Thanks !
That is it. I guess I couldn't find it because I misspelled it.
I wonder why it didn't come up when I did searches like "flying horse books" or "ponies with wings"....?
Anyways: Thanks

I kinda got lucky on this one. I was looking on Google to see if I could find pictures of The Horse on the Roof, and this one came up as a related book.

Glad you found your book, Sforster. One tip is to limit a Google search to a specific website. For example, this happens to work (although it often comes down to luck):

Google search of Goodreads:
site:goodreads.com "children's" "fantasy" "flying horse"
