This book, I recall, has a southern setting. The main protagonist is a girl and her father was a firefighter before he took his own life. He was known as a very handsome man and couldnt bare living with a disfigured face. I remember the protagonist was close with her cousin who was a male. I read the book around 2007ish and I think the author was a woman.
