A Little Princess
question
This book changed my childhood - what did you think of it?

I adored this book as a little girl. Though the author Frances Hodgson Burnett has since received some criticism for racism and class-ism in the story, I'll always consider it my first "favorite book" and Sarah Crewe my first hero. This charming story taught me a lesson that has never failed me: What you are does not depend on what you have, but on how you behave. I'd enjoy hearing what others have to say.
Yes! This was my favorite book when I was a little girl. As an adult, I am very aware of the classism and racism that I wish weren't there in the story. I get that it's a product of its time. But it did encourage me to use my imagination, and it taught me that there were other Little Bookish Girls out there, and it did remind me to behave with integrity no matter what. (Okay, you posted this nearly a year ago, but I'm just seeing it now. LOL)
I finished it today and unfortunately it didn't impress me. But seeing all the positive reviews, I wish I had read this when I was much younger. Maybe I would have gotten something more out of it.
