Any questions you might have or a discussion you want to discuss with other members can be added here. GoodReads technical questions included.

And, we will all put our heads together to hopefully give you a helpful answer. :)

Kelly | 16 comments Ok. I'm a little GoodReads challenged. Am I missing something or can we not use emojis?? I'm feeling a little stripped of my ability to express myself properly without my emoji-dependence! (queue sticking out tongue emoji with eyes squinted shut!)

Also, I guess there are no "likes" to comments? Sorry, I guess I'm Facebook/Instagram trained.

message 3: by CindySR (new)

CindySR (neyankee) LIKE! smiley face

I also have those exact questions!

message 4: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) It depends on what operating system you’re using. I don’t have those features on my iPad (running on iOS like a cell phone) but I do on my desktop and presume I would be able to use them on a laptop. Goodreads took away those features on iOS last year for some reason (they’re always making annoying changes).

I know emojis are possible since other members use them, but I'm not sure how so hopefully one of them will chime in for you, Kelly and Cindy. :)

Yeah, I hate the phone app, oh well. But thanks!

message 9: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 16 comments 😃 Thank you, Dung! 🥳🤩 Although, on the phone app I no longer have a “reply” button 😂😂

Dung | 13 comments 🙌🏻 Yay, glad the phone emoji worked for you. There’s definitely trade-off using the phone app vs the desktop version. 😁

message 11: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 173 comments Is there anyone who can do it on a laptop????

message 12: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 173 comments Okay. I'm hoping someone here can help. Or has some insight. I just went to Amazon, to my content and devices, and I wanted to send a book I got as a doc to my daughter's Kindle. But when I tried to do it, the only two devices showing up are our two phones. We should have four kindles showing up on that list, as well as some other phones. Any clue??? I tried it for books, not just for docs. Could some of you please go see if it's working normally for you on Amazon, under content and devices?????

wosedwew | 345 comments If I send something to my Kindle, I have to use e-mail.
I think you need to find the e-mail address for your daughter's Kindle and then e-mail to that.

Things I e-mail never show up in Content and Devices.

🥳🤩

I'm on a laptop and I tried copy/paste on emojis from Kelly's message and it worked! 😃 😂😂

On my Kindle Content and Devices, I see the things I emailed if I switch to viewing Docs (Instead of the default Books).

Marlene | 173 comments Yes, my book is showing up under docs. I can send it to my phone or to my husband's phone, but neither of my Kindles, nor my kids' Kindles are showing up as options for where to send the book to. . . . :-(

Aha! That worked. Thanks

message 18: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 345 comments Marlene, do you know the e-mail address for your daughter's Kindle?

To find it, go to "Your Account"
"Digital Services and Account Support"
"Manage Devices"

Under Kindle, it should list all the Kindles your family owns. Choose the one your daughter uses.

When I click on mine, it says "Rose's Kindle". When I click on that, it shows the e-mail address.

message 19: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 173 comments Rose, I can find her e-mail address, but I don't think I can e-mail it to her. I don't know I could do that. NetGalley e-mailed the book directly to my Kindle.

message 20: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 345 comments Can you have NetGallery e-mail it to her Kindle?

message 21: by Marlene (new)

Marlene | 173 comments Rose, I think you found my problem with that suggestion. I went to NetGalley to see if I could have the book sent to Nora's Kindle, and sent a new book to my Kindle since I saw that I needed to send it. And it didn't arrive to my Kindle. So I went to Amazon and decided to look at the list of devices . . . and there are no Kindles listed. I'll mention it to Dan - that he, needs to, apparently, re-add our Kindles to our account. Hopefully it will not be a problem to do so.

Marlene | 173 comments Adele (msg 22) - I believe that's true on my Android as well, but I don't use Goodreads on my phone - just on my laptop. Lucky you, though! :-D <--- (old tech emoji!)

Rose (msg 20) - We figured it out! I told my husband that I tried everything I could think of, and I still couldn't figure out the problem. Guess what the problem was? My husband CHANGED HIS AMAZON password! We had to re-enter his password on all the Kindles, and . . . voila!

wosedwew | 345 comments Marlene -- it's always the simple things that trip you up!
Glad to hear of your success.

Marlene | 173 comments Okay, I have another technical question. Goodreads keeps sending me e-mails. I have turned off almost all e-mails on Gooodreads, and somehow I am still managing to get e-mails when people leave comments.

Any recommendations????????

I think if you don't open them then eventually the frequency will fade. I get emails for other comments when I comment on a discussion thread, but if I ignore the email alerts, then they stop sending them for that discussion thread.

Okay, so apparently Cindy already figured this out, but today I figured out a way that would work for me. Cindy figured out that she can copy/paste. So I've just e-mailed myself all the emojis that I normally use, and I can now copy and paste them into Goodreads or wherever I want to on my laptop:

👍🙂🤟🐱🔥😆🤷‍♀️🙄😢⚡😱😉😅🤔☹️☎️😁😳🤞❌😬

Normally I wouldn't paste them all. :-) .... or rather, 🙂

I put them in my profile. I will add to them as I come across more in my GR browsing.

I sent myself an email with "emoji library" as the subject. Easily recognizable if i search for that phrase on my Gmail account. I like Cindy's idea also.
