Well that's certainly a twist on all the stories in which the rivalry and jealousy makes Wickham want to steal Darcy's girl. For once the other way around :P

message 304: by Mary Lou (new)

Mary Lou (mlhart) | 1 comments Hi everyone! Mary Lou from Portland, OR. I lived in almost every state on the west coast but my husband's career has kept us comfortably in Portland for almost 20 years now... which is a long time to a person who never lived anywhere more than 6 years in a row previously.
I "discovered" Austen my freshman year of college when I was looking for classic literature to read (and use to avoid my homework) in the student bookstore and happened upon Sense and Sensibility on the bookshelf. I had seen parts of the movie with my brother in high school (loved Brandon from the start and Elinor) but didn't realize it was based on an actual book. Grabbed it and the other book on the shelf by the same author Persuasion and thus my addiction was begun.

I think I read both books that the first weekend and had to go in search of more - Mind you this was pre-2000 and the internet was still dial-up so it took a bit of time, and I probably should have been studying. I have since read all the books several times and have been reading fanfiction since my 1st child was born in 2005.
Persuasion is my favorite (I wish I was a Lizzy sometimes but I am most definitely an Anne.) I have come to love P&P also, especially since my first fanfiction was "Darcy's Story" by Janet Aylmer, and Darcy and I have similar personality traits. Taciturn may be my favorite word from ane Austen. And fanfiction from Darcy's point of view is a favorite treat.

I should admit that years after my addiction began I realized my first "introduction" to Austen was my love of the movie Clueless - I worked at a movie theater when it came out and saw it several times a week in the theater. Cher's "Emma" is my favorite.

I aspire to Darcy's library, someday, but with 2 teenagers currently at home, I am being pragmatic about what I'll actually be able to fit in. Only aiming for "Anne Elliot" level and if I more, bonus.

I honestly have no idea how large my TBR pile is, I'm nervous to check. I think every time I read 1 book I add 4 more to the pile so... :-)
While I joined the group hoping to reduce the pile a bit I think it likely will just be bigger by year's end.

Welcome in the family Mary Lou!

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments Welcome, Mary Lou, you will find yourself among friends here. We love JAFF and unfortunately, we will add more books to your TBR pile. I kept thinking that I would add a book and take away a book. NOPE. I read one and add 10. Goodness! This place is addictive and my GR friends find the best stories. I hope you enjoy your travels as you go through the different reading levels. Take your time and enjoy the ride. You are most welcome.

Welcome and how nice of you to share so much of your JA background with us. Most of us have similar stories. For me the intro was the 1995 P&P movie with Colin Firth. We are very relaxed here and just cheer each other on. No one checks to see if you meet your goal. Just enjoy and let us know when you really find a fantastic JAFF read so we may enjoy it also.

What is the JAFF Index? A JAFF library?

message 310: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 345 comments The Index lets you search for stories in several ways:
author
story name
relationships
categories

It is easy to use. Not every story will be listed but many are.

http://www.jaffindex.com/ff_entry.php

You need a password which is available at several FF sites.

Marlene | 173 comments Oh, that's really neat! Reminds me of a list I saw on one of the JA websites - maybe Meredith's?

message 312: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 904 comments Meredith lists all the books she has read under various categories. Plus, she lists new publications and also gives us her ratings.

Adele (delbert59) | 98 comments Hi everyone
This is Adele I started down the JAFF rabbit hole in 2020 looking for some escape from reality and was recruited by @Shifra (thank you very much). I joined the challenge group in 2021 and retired. Now I travel, do some consulting and read! I live in Ohio but I’ve only been home a few weeks so far this year.
