Snow Crash - So, What Do You Think Happens After the End?

Very curious as to where everyone sees the characters going from here. I loved the book but I think the ending was abrupt. So, did Uncle Enzo make it? How about Hiro and Juanita, or Hiro and YT? Does Hiro get married, keep working for the CIC, begin traveling the world challenging swordsman seeking the one that is better than him (there is always a better, some say). Does he continue his partnership with YT? Will YT mourn Raven? So, what say you?

As I've said before, I don't believe Raven is dead. I think he hightailed it out, cut his losses, and moved on with life. He had said that he wasn't particularly loyal to Rife, but rather Rife was just the most convenient outlet for Raven's goals at the time. Those goals failed, I can see Raven moving on on forgetting all about Rife, Enzo, and everyone. He may one day try to look for Y.T. again, but maybe not. I don't think he'll ever forget about Hiro, not with their fathers so tied to each other in the war and all.

I'd like to think Uncle Enzo made it, For a Mafia boss, he was a really cool and easy going guy, and it would be sad to see him go. Plus, I think he has plans for grooming Y.T. to take his place.

Hiro and Juanita will be a solid thing as long as Hiro does one thing: get a real job. It seems thats why she left him in the first place, the sheer unpredictability of his life. Having a steady job will go a long way in giving her the stability she needs in him.

Hiro will probably keep his partnership up with Y.T. It's profitable for both of them, and after all they've been through they have a lot to upload to the Library, from information on the Rat Things to the truth behind Rife and Snow Crash. They can make a serious amount of money with the things they learned.

Y.T. probably stays the same, but with more understanding of what's going on in life. I'm sure she'd hate to see Raven again, stays in touch with Hiro, and ends up in the Mafia under Uncle Enzo.

I need to re-read that part (ie Raven) because I thought I remembered an explosion occuring way off in the distance signifying he had died. Remember the nuke?

The Metaverse will keep expanding, and offer Hiro more opportunities to fight insurgents. He and YT will have separate adventures, but their paths will keep crossing. Very far down the road they will have a romance, (when she's of age, say maybe 25!) but it won't last and they will remain close friends. Hiro will adopt a damaged Rat Dog. YT will work for Uncle Enzo and quickly move up in the organization due to her take-no-sh*t attitude.

The only physical damage Raven had taken were the stab-and-slash wounds to his leg. Enzo set off the plank's sonic wave and shattered all Raven's glass knives so he'd be unable to use them anymore.

In RE: to Hiro getting a real job, I believe that was the whole point of the message he put in place of the SnowCrash bitmap. He's opening a Metaverse securities business because he and others have realized how vulnerable people can be in it.

FINALLY! I finished the book. (SPOILERS)


I ditto the hope that Uncle Enzo makes it. It's hard to tell. Y.T. seemed destined to take his place, so one would presume he would make it long enough to train her.

While Raven wasn't killed by the sonic boom, he lost his weapons--injuries in the arm and achilles were significant, but his natural strength makes one wonder if he'd be able to escape the mafia people that soon were swarming the joint. Maybe the mafia captures him and makes him an offer he can't refuse. He later finds Y.T. and begs her to take him back as he's a "changed" man. (kidding)

LOVED that Fido got Rife. Makes you wonder though what exactly will happen to the raft? Maybe Mr. Lee turns it into a floating Hong Kong Disneyland. Sort of a "reality" Pirates of the Caribbean experience.

I've just finished reading Snow Crash. Yes, I know this comment thread is almost eleven years old now. Anyways, I wanted to discuss what I think happened post book.
1. Enzo - I think he survived, hes a tough son of a gun. Not to mention a bunch of medics rush in to save him towards the end,
2. Raven - He escapes. It states at the end of the book that someone gets away in a mafia car and it would seem to reason that he is the one escaping. Plus there is no mention of a nuke.
3. Y.T. - Yours Truly most likely reconciles with her mother, adopts Fido, and even takes up a position under Enzo.
4. Juanita and Hiro - I saw a post earlier on that said that now Hiro is working he and Juanita can be together since that's what she wanted. That's not what she wanted. She wanted Hiro to realize what he was. A bad*ss sword swinging freelance hacker whom at the beginning of the book is just a pizza delivery boy. She wants Hiro to recognize his skills and acknowledge that he's got a lot of talent that can be put to use.
