Margo, thanks - thought it would be a good read. Will have try to fit it into next year's challenge. The colourful cover is like abstract art and difficult to know what it represents!

Saar The Book owl | 2670 comments I thought that Janice made a mistake, because I read December 2022 monthly challenge and I wonder: waw, Janice is really early!, but then I've noticed that it is for the new yearley challenge, haha!
I'm going to go for task 2, only need to find a book.

Janice (jamasc) | 60233 comments Ooops! Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out Saar. I've got 2022 on the brain obviously.

Annerlee | 2876 comments I have an amazing book in hardback that I've wanted to read for a while: Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse
It has beautiful purple shiny page edgings and silver metallic vines and skulls on the cover. The cover here doesn't do it justice.

Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse (Goth Girl, #1) by Chris Riddell

Goth girl has a large feather on her tiara. The book is 220 pages long and also has a small pamphlet- book in the back "Memoirs of a Mouse" by Ishmael Whiskers. But there are quite a lot of illustrations in it too. I'm wondering if I can use it for the challenge.

Janice (jamasc) | 60233 comments I know some groups won't accept childrens' books for that reason. I'm going give you a Christmas gift and let you read it for the challenge.

message 57: by Annerlee (new)

Annerlee | 2876 comments Excellent! Thank you.
Now I just need to resist the temptation to start it early.

message 58: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60233 comments I know! I'm itching to start my book as well, but I have to restrain myself. I have 4 hours in the book I'm currently reading and then I want to read my last museum challenge book before I read the monthly challenge book. Discipline!

message 59: by Annerlee (new)

Annerlee | 2876 comments Haha. Yes. And I already have three books on the go and two library books lined up after that, so I’ll not be short of things to read in the meantime

Saar The Book owl | 2670 comments @Hannah: I want to read 'Outlander' too, but it's so big! What do you found of 'Wolf Hall'? I need to read that too.

I'm going to read From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Roz, I read There There by Tommy Orange for an in-person book club. We all enjoyed it and it made for some good discussion points if I remember correctly.

Grainne Coughlan | 1374 comments I think I will read Angels In My Hair by Lorna Byrne or Stairways to Heaven by Lorna Byrne

They will both be re-reads for me. As it is around Christmas time and I celebrate Christmas, I like to read books like this as a reminder of life and spirituality.

Especially when the men are all James or Richard,

I really enjoyed Outlander. Though a big book, it kept my interest and did not seem to take all that long to read. I enjoyed the style of writing in Wolf Hall, but a more difficult read.

Odette (odman) | 997 comments I cannot make up my mind what to read!
I already have on kindle Ordinary Thunderstorms by William Boyd, but reviews do not seem to be great. Also have access to Osprey Reef

Christina ❤️M❤️ (christir1159) | 1 comments I have already changed my mind... what's new. I am going to read My Friend Flicka by Mary O'Hara

Well, I'm up for a buddy read if you have a date in mind. Big books read better when you're not the only reader ;) Yes, that's frequent with history books and all the names. You almost need to make a list of the characters.

Have you read the whole Outlander - series?

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I just started the 8th. It's been a while since I read the first 7.

I have read the first 3 in the series a while ago, and would like to get back into them. Though 5th is over 1,400 pages!

I plan to read that too, but not necessarily for this challenge. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the first book. I'll be interested to see what you think of it.

I'm half through it and it's quite intriguing. It's a bit chapter turner for me

That's a fine candidate for my big tomes - challenge next year :D
