Capn | 3506 comments Mods: this is an unusual request, and I'm not entirely confident I have selected the correct folder for this. Please help if you feel this doesn't belong here.

I am looking for the ENGLISH VERSION of a Mabel Esther Allan book (YA, light romance) that was translated into Japanese in 1982.

緑の指の見えた日

The Japanese title, transliterated as "Midori no yubi no mieta hi" translates awkwardly as "The day when the green finger was visible", or alternatively, "Date of appearance of finger green".

As 1/3 of the Mabel Esther Allan Goodreads group (fans, please join us!), I can confidently say that none of our experts can guess which book this is. We know it isn't "An Island in a Green Sea" as this has been translated (humorously, as in "a blue sea") in Japanese separately.

There is also an image of the cover for this unidentified book posted in the Mabel Esther Allan Goodreads group. It features the silhouette of a female face, against which two figures (male and female?) appear to be facing / embracing each other next to a smallish body of water, like a pond or stream).

Does anyone know what English title it could be?

(I am actually looking for expert assistance in finding ALL the titles of Mabel Esther Allan translations, and her pseudonyms - Jean Estoril (The Ballet Family and Drina series), Anne Pilgrim and Priscilla Hagon. I am trying to list this information all in one place for the purposes of posterity and for the good of mankind, etc., and I'm having a hell of a time doing it! Just finding lone titles here and there, and WorldCat has not been much help! If you are interested in assisting me, please get in touch!)

Capn | 3506 comments Foreign translations I have identified so far, in case it is of assistance.

Unfortunately, while it has been tempting to assume that this particular book is likely a popularly translated one, it doesn't necessarily follow - the sole Italian translation I found was for the relatively obscure book, "The Conch Shell". Hard to guess what publishers in different markets would find attractive!

But in case it helps. :)
