Patricia Mae (patriciaflair) | 369 comments I've already voted! The choices are good and I like them. It has a book that I currently reading. Thanks for the early post of this Anita!:D

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8425 comments Great choices! Now I have to decide which to vote for.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Every month when I see this post, it is a reminder to read my book for the current month. Lol

message 5: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12933 comments Nicole, its going to be great for you to have some points again to motivate you! Off to to my research, but I'm pretty sure where my vote is going already.

message 6: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Ironically, I have never had participation points! I was an admin before we started that particular feature.

message 7: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12933 comments Soon, your vote will count!

So, I don't often announce so powerfully, but all of my possible points are going towards books! That was obvious for me. Plus, the end of year is tough with challenges, so its helpful if a book matches up. I am Flying Back to Boston from South Korea with Writers and Lovers. My at home Book Club is doing it in December as well. I have over 15 or books to read for this tag. Would really really love to get to the Plot. So my votes are going there...

Karin, what are you reading to get back to Boston. Want to join me? Nicole, I have no idea where you landed in your travails. I was going to use the Beantown Girls, but turns out that's not about Boston at all and didn't even have enough tags to qualify. Go figure.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8425 comments Anita ... I haven't looked at my points in ages, but it seems that you are missing the Fly the Skies bonus for the June mini challenge (about describing sites we'd see in our destination). My challenge entry HERE

message 9: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Book Concierge, I do the scoring for the challenges. Would you mind just sending me that in a PM and I will pick it up when I do scoring next?

message 10: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Amy, I did not participate in Fly the PBT Skies but Writers & Lovers is an EXCELLENT selection! It will make my top 10 this year for sure.

Every month I see this post and think "already!?"
My how the time flies.

I am going to be so deep into Christmas mode, I am not sure any of these tags will fit :(

message 12: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12591 comments No desire to read anything heavy in December, but I could go either way with the other 2. Going to hold off on my vote for a bit though and see what the group is thinking

I am with you, Meli, on Christmas mode!

message 15: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5763 comments For both Books about Books and Diversity, I own at least 4 on just the first couple pages of the lists. So either of those will work for me. Criticism looks very dry, and I spent 3 years with it in grad school that I wish I could get back!

message 16: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments I definitely have a favorite but there is a 2nd that is close behind!! Decisions, decisions... :)

I agree that I'm moving into Christmas mode and I have my fall flurry/book to get home already picked out (thank goodness for Kristen Hannah lol)

I'm also finishing the last book of the Popsugar challenge that I've been doing, so I plan to "relax" and do a lot of for fun reads next month so definitely want a prompt to support that.

There are a ton of classics on the "criticism" tag.
Frankenstein, Lolita, Lord of the Flies, 1984, To Kill A Mockingbird, a bunch of Stephen King and Shakespeare...

Maybe you were an English major?

A bunch of books in the criticism tag I didn't expect to see that I would like to read but, again, no Christmas :(

message 18: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2597 comments Voted. One obvious one for me as a librarian - Books! The choice for the next two was hard as they both have some that I can read from my TBR.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11089 comments I just happened to download a book with "Christmas Bookshop" in the title. Seriously, just before I logged in here. It might be too sweet for any other time of the year, but I like sweet in December.

I'll look at all the lists in case there are some big surprises.

message 20: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11702 comments There is one I'm really not interested in... but I'd be happy with either of the other two. :-)

I was a French and English lit major, so actually I have read a lot of classics. They are fine, but at the time I was in grad school, the point of the classes and the professional criticism seemed to be to ruin the experience of reading! It took me a while to read for pleasure again.

message 22: by NancyJ (last edited Nov 16, 2021 10:06PM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11089 comments NEWER books. The tag lists cut out at 25 pages, so we often only see the books with the most tags. For some tags you can also find new releases and the most popular tag books this week.

https://www.goodreads.com/genres/book...

I couldn't get this format to work for diversity, but gr is glitchy tonight, so try it anyway. Here is the format (erase the spaces).

That makes total sense, Robin!
I like literature analysis but maybe not 3 straight years of it :P

message 24: by Sue (new)

Sue | 2724 comments Diversity has the most choices for me - and also matches where my reading interests are right now. Easy vote!

I totally understand, when I was working on my BA in History I had a lot of reading and writing to do. I wasn't able to fit any reading for pleasure, even in the summer breaks because I was often taking extra courses. It took a long time to pick up fiction and read it in the way I always had, by just letting go and developing the pictures in my mind. With fiction, I kept finding myself looking back for the facts!

I am not flying to Boston, so am not sure what I am reading yet :) Obviously in Massachusetts somewhere and not Nantucket since that's where I set out from. I will keep this in mind, though.

message 28: by DianeMP (new)

DianeMP | 534 comments Voted! That was an easy choice! I love reading books about books.

I believe you CAN fly back to the exact place you started from.

message 30: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5763 comments Yes, from the original description -

• Your final book of the year in December must be set in your home town/state/province/etc. so that you can safely return home after a year of adventures!

message 31: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments You can fly back to exactly where you started from! In fact, ideally, that is how it would work out—you start from your hometown and end at your hometown!

Karin, I sent you a PM about your starting and ending locations, so we can chat about your options there!

message 32: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12933 comments There are at least a few books I've already read that feature my hometown just outside Boston. But none of them would have five tags. Plus, I have already read them.

Right, but I thought I had to fly to and from different places, and I am closer to Boston, so that's where I'll be flying to (and from--adjustments coming). I signed up for far too many challenges--mor than normal in January due to Covid closures, etc, and will never do that again! So may challenges, so many rules, so easy to get confused.

Boston is the closest in state major metropolitan area in this state with enough tags as per the latest clarification.

message 34: by NancyJ (last edited Nov 21, 2021 11:25PM) (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11089 comments In case this question hasn't been addressed yet --- your starting point and final destination can be exactly the same, but they don't have to be. If you can't find a local book with enough tags, you can use the closest city or your state as the tag for your final destination.

Another suggestion was for us to help one another to tag books (that we read of course) that fit your location. So if you have a local book you want to read, but it only has 3 or 4 tags, please speak up in case some of us already read it.

Also, there is nothing in the rules that requires there to be an airport in your final destination.

Actually, Karin, looking at the rules again, players were to start in their actual location. So even if your tiny village has no airport, that was still your starting location (because we were reading and counting tags for each DESTINATION).

When coming home in December, players should use the closest metro area, or if there are still no books with sufficient tags, the state (for players located in the USA), or the country.

message 36: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Thanks, Book Concierge! Karin and I have worked out her starting and ending destinations behind the scenes, so she’s all set!
