The male main character is maybe early 20's, has a very successful blog offering simple life advice, and runs a second hand movie props shop with his best friend (also male). He falls in love with a girl, an aspiring actress, who is shot and killed not long after they get together. That happens in the USA (Los Angeles I think), then he moves to London, as he keeps having a dream where he sees the now dead GF at a cafe. He knows it's not a memory and tries to find the cafe, which he believes to be in London. He meets a mysterious guy at a tiny eatery place who eventually teaches him how to look for the girl in her previous incarnations to try and win her over again. To travel back he has a red beret he had gifted to her, and has to jump into a gap at a certain time on a certain day, I think it was at an old observatory, where a portal only opens once a year, then travel through a tunnel and an underground river to end up in the past. Then he has to find her again and get to know her again as she is in a different body with a different name. This is the first book of a series.
