SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. YA Dystopian - The world has fallen to dystopia and creatures roam the wilds, story centers around a boy whose caretaker gives him tea to make him sick, possibly trying to turn him into one of the creatures? Owls are a major theme. [s]

Basilton | 4 comments I believe the book was set in a dystopian future, where people were plagued by these owl-like monsters. I remember owls being a major component of the mythos of the story and may have even appeared to the main character outside his window and told him of a prophecy? The story centered around said boy and possibly a band of friends, apologies that this is all pretty vague. I do remember the boy's caretaker giving him tea with something in it, perhaps a sedative to placate him or a potion to turn him into one of the creatures. This was a plot point in the story- turning people into the creatures. [Spoilers] I believe the ending was the boy using the potion (maybe in a syringe?) to turn the caretaker into a monster before he could be turned himself and escaping.

Hey guys! On the hunt for another book I read as a kid that has me stumped. Sorry again that I can't remember much! This was likely read in the early 2010s, American publishing, possibly an owl on the cover.
