John Warner (jwarner6comcastnet) | 97 comments Family member against family member. Neighbor against neighbor. Members of Congress and government appear more interested in maintaining power than compromising and working together on some of the issues plaguing out country. These are truly "troubling times."

Where do we find hope?According to Bishop Michael Curry, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, hope and healing might lie in "the way", the love demonstrated by the man from Galilee two milleniums ago. Much of today's animosity, exacerbated by the news and social media, are between strangers who know nothing more than a political belief. Although our political beliefs are only one aspect of our self-concept, many see it as a trait that stains the whole person; therefore, making the "other" unworthy. Jesus was known for accepting all regardless of their status in life.

Bishop Curry uses vignettes from his life and enounters he has made to encourage a new approach to healing the nation. He is not promoting that one gives up viewpoints; he is encouraging each to tell his or her story and for the other to listen nonjudgementally. Maybe if we are no longer strangers, we would be more prone to working together. If I had the funds, I would purchase a copy of Bishop Curry's life-altering book for each member of Congress. It might be the seed that is needed for reconciliation and healing and we could begin to work on the social problems currently facing our nation.

Peacejanz | 1015 comments You make the assumption that all members of Congress can read and would read. This is a great review and it sounds like a wonderful book - I try to live by the Christian canon and love all people but none of my Senators or Representative listen to me. They vote no - no discussion, no understanding. After years of this, my spirit is down. Maybe I need to get this book to pump it up. Thanks for posting. peace, janz
