Евгения Марковец | 3 comments English is not my native language, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes.

I'm looking for a book about colonists on a distant planet. The woman is cooking, doing something in the house, she has an egg. Their ship was wrecked and two people were saved. One of them used donor organs to change sex and grow embryos for colonization, the supply of which was on the ship.

And so that the second astronaut did not suffer, the first somehow inspired him that he was a woman and that everything was fine. The egg, with which the astronaut did something, was the apparatus for the illusion.
And the house was a container from the wreckage of a ship.
The story is very old, I read it as a child.
It does not contain scenes of a sexual nature, namely fiction about disaster and survival.

Евгения, around what year did you read this book?

Was this book written for adults?

Try adding more plot details to the header/ topic title "Science Fiction book..." You can copy from what you've already written in the comments. Someone is more likely to recognize your book. If you would like help with this, just post a new comment.

Евгения Марковец | 3 comments Yes, I will be grateful for your help.

It was an adult book. Translated into Russian, I read it after about 1990, but no later than 2000. Perhaps it was one of the stories in the collection, but I'm not sure.

Genesistrine | 575 comments This is Call Me Dumbo by Bob Shaw. There's a list of books containing it at: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cg...

SamSpayedPI | 2306 comments Tomorrow Lies In Ambush by Bob Shaw (which contains the story "Call Me Dumbo," Genesistrine's suggestion) is available at the Internet Archive (https://archive.org/details/tomorrowl...).

You need to be a member to borrow books, but membership is free; you only need to give them an email address.

Евгения Марковец | 3 comments Yes, this is it! Many thanks!

Should I now change the title of what is found, or will you do it yourself?)

Glad you found your book, Евгения. I marked your request as Solved by clicking the small "edit" link after the header/ topic title. This only works only the full Desktop website.

I shelved the solution as Tomorrow Lies In Ambush by Bob Shaw. Let us know if it's a different book/ anthology.
