January 2022 BOTM Nominations - THEME: Books about Books

This will be our first Book of the Month. Each month we vote on which books we want to read for the next month but first we need recommendations, these will later be added to a poll that y'all can vote on.

Please read the rules for nominating before you create your post!!

The category for January 2022 is....
Books about Books!

Only ONE nomination per month per person.

Please be sure to post the title and author.

Books must be related to the chosen theme.
And must be either Standalone or the first book in the series.

Nominations will be open until December 12th.

Once I close nominations I will create the polls and let you know when it is time to vote!

Books nominated after the deadline will not be included in the polls.

Books nominated do not have to strictly be YA.

Please use the add book/author tool located at the top of the comment box when nominating a book.

Books must be published at the time of nomination.

Optional but would be very much appreciated:
add the Goodreads synopsis for the book you nominate;
or you can also include a reason why we should read your nomination.

Also, please be aware of your nomination's genre and list them in appropriately.

The BOTM nominations are for our members to nominate a book they are truly interested in and have no affiliation with. Promotional activity is NOT permitted and nominations that the Moderators perceive to be promotional will be deleted without warning.

I'd like to nominate Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan



"The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon away from life as a San Francisco web-design drone and into the aisles of Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, but after a few days on the job, Clay discovers that the store is more curious than either its name or its gnomic owner might suggest. The customers are few, and they never seem to buy anything; instead, they "check out" large, obscure volumes from strange corners of the store. Suspicious, Clay engineers an analysis of the clientele's behavior, seeking help from his variously talented friends, but when they bring their findings to Mr. Penumbra, they discover the bookstore's secrets extend far beyond its walls."

I will nominate The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams

" Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, she spends her childhood in the "Scriptorium," a garden shed in Oxford where her father and a team of dedicated lexicographers are collecting words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Young Esme's place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day a slip of paper containing the word "bondmaid" flutters to the floor. She rescues the slip, and when she learns that the word means slave-girl, she withholds it from the OED and begins to collect words that show women in a more positive light.

As she grows up, Esme realizes that words and meanings relating to women's and common folks' experiences often go unrecorded. And so she begins in earnest to search out words for her own dictionary: The Dictionary of Lost Words. To do so she must leave the sheltered world of the university and venture out to meet the people whose words will fill those pages."
