I think Roman Catholic priests should be required to grow a beard, like our Orthodox brothers are. 😅 Eastern Orthodox monks/priests have THE best beards.

@Ellie, should I grow a beard? 😂

(-Googles Encanto so I can pretend I've heard of the movie-) Ah, yes, Encanto! I've watched that movie three times! If I wasn't so tired, I'd have known the quote.

Rushing to brush my teeth

(The younger generation can't appreciate the intensity of scheduled television that most decidedly did NOT wait for you and could not be paused.😅)

message 13527: by [deleted user] (new)

Reminds me of one of Tolkien’s letter where he claimed that men are naturally polygamous and women are naturally monogamous and that’s why women usually more virtuous (holier) than men 😅

That is a hard topic to follow up because there is so much that could be said about it. However, I have a busy day, so I need to leave it alone and just give my first thought....

First thought: Haha! I found you!

(Oh no, I never doubted you, Mary :) The way you memorize movie lines and song lyrics, it's impressive; you'd make a great historian)

Don't Take Your Guns to Town by Johnny Cash (currently listening to this as I type this comment)

(lol, it's fine :) At the risk of sounding sexist, a woman liking a ton of Jonny Cash would be the equivalent of a man loving Taylor Swift. 😅 Or a woman sitting on the porch with a cigar and a whiskey talking to her friends. There's just some things that's only fitting for men to do and some things for women do.

-prepares to be decapitated by a bunch of feminists-)

^that was my first thought 😂

message 13545: by [deleted user] (new)

(@Z, I was kinda being tongue-in-cheek about the Johnny Cash comment, but the porch thing is 100% true 😅 I have fond memories of sitting around a bonfire with a few guys from our Newman group, smoking pipes and talking theology. I grew an entire beard that night)

When a good Baptist meets a sinful Catholic (first thought lol)

Mary-Therese P. | 2967 comments (@Stephen, well, I agree halfway with your comment. I have a couple of guy friends (like, Catholic, Republican guys) who like Taylor Swift, plus, my mom likes Johnny Cash, so I don't think the analogy is perfect, but more or less, lol)

(@Mary, I wasn't being entirely serious 😅 toxic masculinity and authentic masculinity has been a topic that's been on my mind lately, especially in regards to Andrew Tate's influence, as well as the unhealthy examples that are too prevalent in "trad" Catholic groups.
I dislike the way those groups treat women, but that's a topic for another thread :)

Also, I actually like a few pop songs that would be considered "girly." :)
