Ive never heard of the series nor do I know what a djinni is. From your comment I’ll assume it’s something of the evil spiritual realm. If it’s dark magic in our world I’d say avoid it 10000%. But if it’s in a fantasy novel then with a completely different spiritual realm then… 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t know what to tell you. It really depends if the book and I’m not sure I can give advice without having read it.
"Djinni" is just a different spelling for genie or djinn which you may have heard of - like in Aladdin! It's a mythical creature I suppose, but it's also typically an evil spirit, and it definitely makes me nervous when they show up in fiction. Obviously Aladdin isn't a problem imo, but the main focus of that story isn't really on the magic. I can't figure out from flipping through if it's set in the real world or not, because that might make a difference (but it also might not...) Thanks for replying nonetheless, Lilly and Lizzy!@ Lizzy, I haven't seen it yet, so I can't help 😔 Sorry!
Oh okay. Yeah I tend to completely avoid stuff on the evil spirit world. I’ve seen an evil presence before and besides the point it’s not profitable to be looking at reading that anyhow. Not to minimize the reality of its existence but it’s not good to purposefully read or watch content with such stuff in it. There’s a few books I’ve tumbled across in fantasy realms that even made me uneasy. Soo yeah… I don’t know what to tell ya
Well, this is certainly educational in the good sense (for once I am sarcasm and irony free) but let me cut to the chase. Yes, satanic (which I controversially define as God free more than Satan saturated) is real and physically affects us.
While on a date with an older woman and fellow member of the Mythopoeic Society we encountered that blatantly. Sitting in my car across the street from my high school very late at night there was a non-voluntary out of body experience that happened to me. The woman that I could see even though my point of view was now outside the car slid away from me bordering on hysteria. Shortly after that I returned to seeing through my own eyes and she demanded she call her mother. This was pre-cell phone so I drove to my parent’s house.
Her father as supposed to be home with her mother. No answer so she called her Aunt. In the interval she said my face “changed” into another person and my voice changed to that person’s voice and I said things that I could not have known. Weird? Tighten your seat belt. She reached her aunt to discover her father had been taken to the hospital and died just minutes before that event happened.

That was the last time she spoke to me. Needless to say she broke off our relationship blaming me for the incident. Was it real? Much too real for me. Her too I suspect. So, yes, there are spiritual powers that really do affect people. Is much “possession” mental in origin? Yes, but I know based on this and other incidents that it is not always neatly covered by neat little rationalizations that modern people use to avoid thinking on these things.

Lizzy—sorry, I don’t have any info on that one.
Amanda—I have not heard good things about Fourth Wing. Shea (F&F member) wrote a good review, but I have heard the language and inappropriate sexual content are throughout from several others.

I love this community so much!! Thanks for all the tips!!Also, what are some good books?? I need some YA book recs ☺️
for me, it's little to no profanity (a little is fine but not over the top) and no on-page sexually explicit scenes.
Totally clean means no language whatsoever and not a whole lot of romantic touching. Somewhat clean can have what Kacie stated.
Ok yeah I actually agree with Helena. I guess what I should said is what Kacie said is what I’m ok with reading (not worse then that). But it isn’t what I would call completely “clean”.
Yeah, I'd be OK with reading a little language and romantic content but it depends on the level and how it's presented, it's pretty subjective.
I consider my books (that I wrote) clean and my 11 year old is reading them, but I know everyone's idea of what is clean or not is a bit subjective. I know some people would find my books too intense or something too. I prefer totally closed door romance but I don't mind the author implying that something happened--especially if it's not like every single page. It needs to have a purpose in the narrative and not be repetitive.
I don't mind a few bad words but again, why? As an author, I try to make everything in my book serve the narrative. So a few bad words might make sense but when it's over the top, it's just annoying and there are much more colorful words you could use to describe something than the same curse words over and over.
I don't mind violence but I don't really want it described in tons of detail either.
I don't mind intense thrillers at all. I prefer page turners that maybe have you checking your own house's shadows or something. ;)
(@Becky, this is off topic on this thread, but I am looking for recommendations for clean/mostly clean thrillers for my daughter. Since it’s not my genre, I don’t know how to direct her. Can you recommend any? You can message me or answer on the “Recommendations” thread if you want. Thanks!😊 )
I imagine many of you have read Crooked Kingdom - I'm concerned about (view spoiler). Does it get a lot of positive focus? The tv show went further than I was expecting, so I thought I'd check 😅

Romance isn't really the focus of the book, and there are two other ships as well, but I'm not exactly sure what you're fine with. I haven't seen the show, but after watching some clips, I think it went farther in the show. (Which is absolutely ridiculous, since it's supposed to happen before SoC)

It certainly isn't viewed as anything other than a normal romance. Bardugo paints a lot of things antithetical to Christian faith as normal and positive. I have not seen the show, so I cannot compare them.

No problem. Btw, I want to watch the show so much, but don't have Netflix. There really isn't anything else I want to watch on there though, except maybe the new AGGGTM show coming out. But I'd love to watch S&B.
@Bella, the S&B on Netflix is worth watching if you're ever able. I had Netflix when it aired, but now I'm dropping it because of prices (and I don't use it much haha). I thought the parts with the Crows were the best part of the show (the scene I alluded to excluded, obviously 😅 it's in Season 2 I think?), and the casting was great. I wish they'd release more things to disc, because I'd love to watch it again :/ It did get canceled though, which is majorly unfortunate.
Yeah, I really do want to watch it. If I ever get a chance to watch something on Netflix it'll prob be S&B. If only it were Prime instead...
Clockwork Angel, The Infernal DevicesSeems fine until your less than halfway through the second book and two of the main characters start um… doing things…

Yeah but not in the last book. I had decided to just skip the page but then it really just got worse. The worst part is, it’s just out of no where. One moment they’re talking, the next moment I have to skip the page cause they’re doin stuff 💀
Not to spoil it but, at first it was Jem and Tess and then it was Tess and Will. I agree with Sophie lol. “If you kiss enough men, you become a snake.”
It's pretty cleancharacter makes out and there is hope for more but spoiler alert: it never comes
like 2-3 cusses/book
Magic
That's it
@Taz, the last book has a scene toward the end that ruins it for me in terms of it being a YA novel. It’s not super explicit, but it is an intimate scene that is definitely not cloaked enough. It’s at the end of a chapter, so fairly easy to skip if you want.
