This is a bad idea. Where you were born is information that is used to steal someone's identity. I get that you're only asking for the state (or country), but that's a slippery slope.

Where you live, as long as it's not too specific, is a far safer question than where you were born. No one uses the state they live in (or country) to prove their identity, but where you were born is a frequent security question.
Well, my view is that nobody here is going to investigate. You can declare whatever location you like and if you use it consistently for purposes of this group, I don't feel that is cheating. We have a readerboard name which isn't necessarily anything like our legal name, and I feel you could choose a readerboard place of birth, date of birth, or whatever is asked for. It doesn't have to be your "real" one, as long as you always use the same one for this group and don't change it to make tasks easier. It only dawned on me recently that when I am asked for mother's maiden name (which they don't do much anymore) or other identifying information, I can make something up as long as I keep track of what I used.
Well said, Robin. Also I think most people live in the same country they were born in so saying where you live is basically the same thing.Tasks like this are based on the honor system, so if there was a task involving my real life experiences that I really couldn't meet or didn't want to disclose, I would just choose something as close as I could, even if it wasn't technically true.

And you're both completely missing the point that I shouldn't have to lie to complete a task just because it got too personal.

And I do not endorse the idea of lying here - we're not the truth police, but I have real objections to people lying on the SRC. If you can't do it honestly, just don't do it.
Here are your choices:
1. Just do the task.
2. Skip the task.
3. Request in this thread to have a country randomly generated for you. I will use a random country generator and assign one to you.

Thank you for the option, Sandy. Please generate a random country (or state) for me.

The random country generator came up with Venezuela.
The random country generator came up with Venezuela.

"MISCELLANEOUS
1. What does it mean when a task says that a book must be “set in” a particular location?
The general default is that at least 50% of the book must take place in that location. Task creators can vary this in the specific task instructions until task becomes final."

The Bear Raid is a very old book and GR's main page says nothing about it. I found this https://www.fictiondb.com/title/the-b...- Is it good enough to establish my place of birth?

well, it establishes that at least some portion of the book is set in Detroit. You'll have to determine after reading it whether it's at least 50% set there.

Read a book set in the country in which you were born. For those born in the US or Canada, the book should be set in the same State or Province in which you were born.
REQUIRED: State in your post the place of your birth.
If you feel that you must keep your place of birth secret, post in the help thread and I will randomly generate a country for you to use.
