I want to know what there is in those mines and what the Queen knows. I think Auren's origins might surprise us in the future. So far not impressed by Midas. I hope Auren gets away soon. Ch. 9 - Ch. 19 (53%): (view spoiler)[Well, I am glad Auren was not raped but I am disliking King Midas the more I read about him. Why are his people so poor when he can turn anything gold? Why does he treat Auren like that? Not spending time with her and forcing her to watch him having sex with others? I was ok with the first scene in the book because I didn't know they had such a strong bond...but now that I know more...ugh! I don't like him at all.
In terms of the plot, not much is happening. It is quite a slow book and everything I am getting so far is hate towards King Midas. (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 30 - End (100%): (view spoiler)[Ummm interesting ending! I was not expecting Auren to have the "turning gold" power. When I was reading what was happening I was expecting her to make the captain rot so she would be linked somehow to King Rot. I am guessing Auren is Fae too? We shall see! I am way curious about King Rot and the Commander. I don't care at all about King Midas so I was zero sad about him getting mad in the last chapter, you had it coming!!!

It was a good read but with a very slow plot and zero romance. I can see the potential though and I am hoping the next books will be better, a 3 stars for me. (hide spoiler)]

So the king has all these "saddles" and a wife? I really don't like him. I am a little surprised that she is the one that has always been royal. Her family has ruled for generations but she didn't have any magic and you can't rule without magic so she married Midas and he is technically the ruler even though she is the queen. That is a weird way of doing things.

I think that the deal that Midas made with the other king is horrible. I am hoping that when he asked her if she trusted him it is because he has a plan to get her out of it. I'm very curious about what is in the mines and about what truth the queen claims to know. Midas definitely didn't seem happy at the idea. I bet it is that he can't really turn things into gold. I think that maybe Auren is doing it even if she doesn't know that she is doing it. I may be way out of the ballpark but I bet it's something like that. If it were true it would disrupt his entire rule since you can't be a ruler unless you have a power. I am also curious about Auren's origins. I wonder where she is from exactly and what her ancestry is. I am also not liking Midas at all at this point. He is just using Auren and he is so enamored by him that it makes me sick. (view spoiler)[Oh shit! Midas betrayed the other king. He didn’t have his army meet the other king’s army and they were all slaughtered.

Ugh, I really don’t get Auren at all. The way she cares so much for Midas and is okay with him fucking other women and being married to the queen while he literally keeps her in a cage is just so messed up. I am just not buying that he actually loves her.

I think that Auren is wise to question what Midas does with all his gold. The state of the poor section of the city was kind of a wake-up call. Midas had told her in the past that he wanted to bring change and make the kingdom better but it doesn’t look like he is doing much of that. (hide spoiler)]

There used to be a seventh kingdom. Interesting. And beyond the seventh kingdom was a fae kingdom. But now the seventh kingdom and the bridge to the fae kingdom are gone. I’m not sure what to make of that story. (hide spoiler)]

Hmm, I wonder if Captain Rip will be a love interest? She certainly described how he looked for an awfully long time. That seemed significant.

The ending was kind of abrupt. I’m not really sure how I feel about this book. I definitely want to know what happens next. I am curious about the fae kingdom and about the Fourth territory and King Rot. And very curious about the fae captain, Rip. The poem at the end of the story makes me think that Midas is not the main love interest. That maybe he only covets her but didn’t love her like she needed so he will lose her. I’m not sure but it seems plausible. (hide spoiler)]

I discarded my theory in that scene so I was shocked at the ending. Well, I hate Midas. I am looking forward to Queen Malina kicking him out (even if I don't like her) and Auren to become Queen of the Fourth Kingdom...maybe? I can't wait to learn more about Rip/King Ravinger and what he is capable. I just don't understand what's going on yet. I enjoyed this book more than the first one but I still think the story is very slow. However, I enjoyed way more some characters and their interactions. Also, I am all here for the tension between Rip and Auren, my favourite part! I am looking forward to the next book and I hope the pace is faster (hide spoiler)]
