Stacey D. | 1908 comments I had a totally different novel chosen, but when Vladimir by Julia May Jonas became available on my library hold list, I couldn't resist. A five-⭐️ read.

Other greats: Never Let Me Go, Americanah, Stoner, Prep and The Penguin Lessons.

Anna | 61 comments I read My Mechanical Romance by Alexene Farol Follmuth.
It's a cute YA romance about two members of high school robotic team.

Btw if you know Olivie Blake who've written Atlas Six, it's the same author, but under her real name!

Adam Smith (chaos624) | 1197 comments Felt like going through Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality again. So there’s my school setting.

Highly recommend if you’ve never read it.

I read Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner about 2 college professors.

I think most of the big books were touched upon. I love the Villette suggestion!

message 56: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 477 comments I read Educated by Tara Westover which everyone has already read. About a family where none of the children got any formal or informal education and the author managed to end up in college and many educational achievements.
Educated by Tara Westover

Rachel (mimbza) | 238 comments These books would all work:

When the Ground Is Hard by Malla Nunn When the Ground Is Hard. This was a great read set at a boarding school by Malla Nunn who grew up in Eswatini (Swaziland). ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is my review

Abigél by Magda Szabó Abigél by Hungarian Magda Szabó is a mystery set in an austere and somewhat eerie and bizarre Lutheran boarding school in Hungary during WW2. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Here is my review

The Rainbow Troops by Andrea Hirata The Rainbow Troops by Indonesian author Andrea Hirata is set on the island of Pulau Belitong, Sumatra, and tells the story of a group of poor village children and their passionate teacher to keep their school open. ⭐⭐⭐ my review

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1731 comments Blood Song (Raven's Shadow, #1) by Anthony Ryan
Blood Song
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is done with a little tongue in cheek. The setting is a monastery in which young boys are trained in the art of war. Think boarding school that you never go home from.

One of the best books I read this year. If I can make a suggestion, listen to the audiobook.
