20 - A book whose title begins with the last letter of your previous read

The books I'm reading right now end with "D" and "E", so I could easily find a title that started with one of those letters that would be interesting. I'm not sure why they chose an X example for the challenge post unless they really love XOXO.

I think it's because the book previous in the list was The Ex Hex, which ended in X.

That's how they got there, but as the creators of the list, they could have ordered their list differently to get a different result. For example, it could have been prompt #10 and used "H" as a first letter (following Akata Witch in the #9 spot).

LOL, this one I was so happy about because it should *knock on wood* be so easy to fill - don't jinx me!

It sounds easy but I don't know that it will be that easy when I get to it. Maybe I'm wrong. Again, as a library reader, I can't just see if I have any books I want to read that start with that letter. I have to see what the library has available, and it would be a book that doesn't fit another prompt... IDK. Just sounds complicated.

As someone who works in a library, feel free to talk to us about this prompt when you feel up to doing it/get around to it. We're more than happy to look up different things, it's kind of the best part of our day.

Am I the only one that thinks this will be harder than it sounds? At least in practice.
My other objection is it means there will be an empty space in my plan, and I abhor empty spaces. I need to have something slotted in.

Maybe when it gets to the last week of December you'll have a good idea if the book you're reading then will be the last one you'll finish this year, so you'll have a few days to find a book that starts with the letter that one finishes with and can be the first thing you read next year? That way you'll have it done and out of the way so it can stop causing you all this stress.

You're definitely not the only one!!! I'm having a very "thanks! I hate it!" reaction to this one. Like, sure, I can find a book. But I'm still not happy about it.

Plus my library user friends are always talking about the stacks of books they check out or have checked out at a given time.
To me this is simple: look at the books you have borrowed or piled up to read next, check the titles, and then stack them in an order that covers this prompt. If you are a planner, knock this prompt off in January.

My problem is that ANY book can fit this. It just depends on when I decide to check this box, so I don't feel good about it. I can't say "yes, THIS particular book fits this category, and will always fit this category!" So for now, my ideas-spreadsheet is going to have a big empty spot for this category.
I'm sure I'll feel better about this once 2022 starts.

Do you sometimes read the challenges in order? If you do, even for the first few, you could plan #1-5, for example, and then slot in #20 after that. That way, if it's a book you want to read that connects to the last letter of #5, but you might have to request the book and wait a bit, you'll have the time. Just a thought....

Actually, yes, this does describe me. I didn't specify but I'm not just a library reader, I'm a Kindle and audio library reader. I don't pick my next book until I finish the last one, or am close to finishing. So often the book I want isn't available and I have to place a hold, and then find something else. What I read next is very much based on library availability.
I'm definitely not one of those people who comes out with a stack of books, if I go to the library at all it's because the book I want isn't available in digital and I've placed it on hold.

I had assumed the title and that's the way I'm going to do it. Maybe I should wait until I come across a book that ends with the same last letter of its title to absolutely ensure I do it right?

When you alphabetize books by title, you ignore "the" and "a" and "an" so I'm ignoring them for this category also. For me, the first letter of, say, The Stand is S.

I loved Killers of the Flower Moon. I read it a while back and it was fascinating. I certainly plan to read it again before the movie comes out.

Kenobi and Kahless are both excellent stories.

So with that, the last book I'll be finishing is Station Eleven which leaves me with the letter 'N'. I'll be choosing The Nineties: A Book .
So many books have 'The' at the beginning so putting it like this- [The] Nineties makes more sense to me. I keep hearing that this is an anticipated book for 2022 and being a millennial I loved growing up in the 90s so it sounds perfect.

I ended up with "Woman World" for the prompt a about non patriarchal society and I'll follow that with "Die of Shame". It could just as easily have been "The Chicken Sisters" (a book I know nothing about) and "Silkworm", or "The Man in the Brown Suit" (set on a boat, plane, train) and "Treasure Island".
Because the choice of the second book is only limited with by its first letter, it's easy to find something you'd like to read,

This is just a fun category and I think it can be flexed in any way that works for you.

Sadly I felt the same way about Nothing But Blackened Teeth, it seemed more like an unpolished short story than a book and I was left disappointed.

Yeah, same :( .

Listopia does not exist for this category. It doesn't seem feasibly to create a Listopia for this one. We're all on our own!!!
