(Also, ever since this

Anna wrote: "How do I decide? It depends, but if there's one that someone talked about here, I'll likely pick that one :) What I'm saying is that if I know active people want to read something, I can make sure it makes it through if it's tied with something no one has mentioned."

I've been meaning to mention The Martian).

I made it a five way tie for sixth place (XD), but as Jemppu would like The Martian to make the cut I undid my shenanigans.

(Why is squabbling over which books get into the Top 6 often more fun than reading them?)

message 210: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments How was it not obvious it was all Ryan's fault? >_<

message 211: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Oh and btw we do have a tie again.

message 212: by Ryan, Your favourite moderators favourite moderator (new)

Ryan | 1746 comments Mod
The more books tied for sixth the better imo. Means we can reject more Fantasy options.

Aww! Don't let me stand in the way of your shenanigans 🐤🔪 (Sweet of you).

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Ryan wrote: "The more books tied for sixth the better imo. Means we can reject more Fantasy options."

Yes but you do know that *I* am the one who makes the final tiebreak if there is one? Another thing I consider when tiebreaking is the SF/F balance. So it doesn't matter if there are seventeen SF and one F book tied, I'll pick the F if there's more SF in the top 6.

Ryan | 1746 comments Mod
It's okay. This is only a different kind of shenanigans at play.

message 217: by Anna (new)

Only thing I trust more on the Internet than you is my ad blocker.

message 219: by Tina Reads (new)

Tina Reads | 144 comments I'm thrilled Ancillary Justice jumped up to the top! I've been meaning to read it this year so it's high on my TBR. Same goes for Uprooted and Rosewater.

message 220: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments lol, are you (too) saying I'm a script? XD

message 221: by Ryan, Your favourite moderators favourite moderator (new)

Ryan | 1746 comments Mod
Hardly. With my improv ways you'd have thrown up error messages by now.

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments You just haven't been reading the log!

Can we switch The Sword of Kaigen and Rivers of London around? Or The Martian and Rosewater? I prefer those pairings for possible VBC chat.

message 228: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Like always I paired them shortest SF/F with longest [other], so sure if no one minds?

message 229: by SFFBC, Ancillary Mod (last edited Aug 25, 2022 05:02AM) (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I would prefer if Sword, Rosewater and Rivers were in different months…

message 231: by Anna (last edited Aug 25, 2022 07:13AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I can switch Rosewater and Ancillary, but I don't know if that messes with Ryan's plans?

The Sword of Kaigen (651 pgs)
Ancillary Justice (386 pgs)

Anyone coming in to comment, option 3 isn't the "current" option, they're all equal options, so just say which one works best for you :)

message 234: by Tina Reads (new)

Tina Reads | 144 comments Could we swap either Rosewater or uprooted to December? I plan on reading both and that would make one of my TBR per month. Thanks!

message 235: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments I don't know how to do that without f*cking with one of the previous requests, but I'll put up an option 4 and let's see :D

(Last month no one had preferences :D )

message 236: by SFFBC, Ancillary Mod (new)

SFFBC | 845 comments Mod
Option 4:

October 15
Ancillary Justice (386 pgs)
The Sword of Kaigen (651 pgs)

November 15
The Martian (369 pgs)
Uprooted (438 pgs)

December 15
Rosewater (432 pgs)
Rivers of London (Midnight Riot) (310 pgs)

message 237: by Tina Reads (new)

Tina Reads | 144 comments Thank you! Option 4 has my vote!

message 238: by Ryan, Your favourite moderators favourite moderator (new)

Ryan | 1746 comments Mod
I'm okay with any of the options so long as Sword of Kaigen and Uprooted are read in October and November for VBC. I forgot that life usually gets too hectic for a VBC in December.

message 239: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Yep, that's why I didn't put those two in December :)

message 240: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I vote for option 3.

The only one I really can’t do is no. 2

message 241: by Jenni (new)

Jenni "Blackrosefencer" (blackrosefencer) | 40 comments I like the option that has the shorter ones in Dec. I think option 3 it was. December is a rough month emotionally speaking. Short, easy books during the really busy holiday season sound like a good idea to me.

message 242: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments Options 3 and 4 are fine for me.

message 243: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments Option 3 would work best for me.

message 244: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Option 3 is winning with option 4 hot on its heels. I think we can keep this open through the weekend and see where things settle by Monday.

message 245: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 858 comments Option 3 is good

message 246: by Anthony (new)

Anthony (albinokid) | 1478 comments I’m happy with option 3 as well.

Ryan | 1746 comments Mod
Does this work for Tina and those of you picking option 3?

Option 5:
October 15

Ancillary Justice (386 pgs)
Uprooted (438 pgs)

November 15

The Sword of Kaigen (651 pgs)
Rosewater (432 pgs)

December 15

The Martian (369 pgs)
Rivers of London (Midnight Riot) (310 pgs)

It doesn't.

message 248: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments From a perfectly selfish standpoint (as these things must be, I suppose) 3 and 5 are functionally identical, evenly distributing the books I have (AJ, U, M) and haven't read (SoK, R, RoL). So I would be fine with either.

message 249: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Ryan, your option 5 == option 3?

message 250: by Ryan, Your favourite moderators favourite moderator (new)

Ryan | 1746 comments Mod
Gah, I pasted the wrong thing. Correcting now.
