Sandra | 25914 comments New shelf is up! Bummer cause I wanted White :(

Shelf #10 ~ 22 Apr 2015: Man's World
Read a book written by a man or a man is the main character

message 553: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I knew it! One of the non-winning shelves!!

message 554: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Glad you are safe Sandra.....hope that was the last of the season for you

Another non winning shelf....Wow

message 555: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Does Styxx (Dark-Hunter, #12) by Sherrilyn Kenyon work?

Sandra | 25914 comments Rosina wrote: "Glad you are safe Sandra.....hope that was the last of the season for you"

Sadly Rosina, it was just the beginning :(

Though October is the major Thunderstorm season, we don't normally get cyclones here in Sydney.

message 557: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments Yes, Michelle :)

message 558: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments This is the very first time in 11 Rounds of Bingo, a new shelf has been called and no team has requested a stamp for the previous shelf.

Considering we have 14 teams playing that is astounding!

message 559: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments For Man's world...do the heroes in romance count as main character? Or does it have to be a book where a man is the sole main character like Jack Reacher or Atticus O'Sullivan?

message 560: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments As long as the man is the main narrator of the story it would count (and I don't mean audio). If its 50/50 or less, no it wouldn't count.

message 561: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 2158 comments Sandra wrote: "Yes, Michelle :)"

Thank you! I was hopeful, cause although it's pnr I think Styxx will play a huge part in the book, like Acheron did in his.

message 562: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Thanks! That helps!

Very few romances are told mostly from the male's POV - it's either 50%-50% or the leaning towards the woman. The only one I can think of the top of my head is Tangled (Tangled, #1) by Emma Chase .

message 563: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments If only I'd waited one more week before starting Golden Trail (The 'Burg, #3) by Kristen Ashley , it's told from Layne's POV.

message 564: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments How about an Ilona Andrews book, written by Gordon and Ilona writing team?

message 565: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments Have to say no Lis.

message 566: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments there is always the Iron Druid series or Jim Butcher books

message 567: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments For those looking for inspiration, I'll add my male author shelf, there are 75 entries:

Male Authors

message 568: by Lis (last edited Apr 22, 2015 06:31PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Thx Sandra and Rosina... I haven't hit the like mark in the Dresden or Iron Druid series yet...
I think I found a good one with Dex's POV in And With Madness Comes the Light (Experiment in Terror, #6.5) by Karina Halle

message 569: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Just out of curiosity and only because I have a few of these staring at me and whispering "Read me! Read me!"
Can I read an anthology? I have the Guys Read series edited by Jon Scieszka and 75% of the stories are written by men.

message 570: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments Yes AH, as long as you read all of it, anthologies are fine, and that one is edited & written by more than 50% male.

message 571: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 1179 comments Lis that book is all sorts of awesome :)

Rosina | 1714 comments Sandra wrote: "For those looking for inspiration, I'll add my male author shelf, there are 75 entries:

thanks Sandra found an interesting one on there
Rivers of London (Peter Grant, #1) by Ben Aaronovitch

message 573: by Raquel (Rocki) (new)

Raquel (Rocki) (raquelrocki) | 1005 comments Can I use Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown ?

message 574: by Raquel (Rocki) (new)

Raquel (Rocki) (raquelrocki) | 1005 comments Nvm its a male writer. Didnt see that till after i posted

message 575: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments Rosina, you can't read a graphic novel for Bingo, but you can read the full novel, Rivers of London, I liked it.

message 576: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1714 comments Sandra wrote: "Rosina, you can't read a graphic novel for Bingo, but you can read the full novel, Rivers of London, I liked it."

I saw i had posted the GN in error and changed it to the book version.
So far liking it.

message 577: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments Excellent!

message 578: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (last edited Apr 23, 2015 08:10AM) (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Oh...so glad for Sandra, fam & friends!

Also glad for all of us in Bingo-land...cause the first I could get on today for posting was...NOW (well, just a bit before this exact NOW, but pretty dang close...and hours after Sandra did). (Imagining the blood and mayhem from such a potential shelf delay and virtually whimpering in a theoretical corner with apologies, theoretical!, to all)

message 579: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments LOL Lucky everything worked out well :)

message 580: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 780 comments Does The Ocean at the End of the Lane by NeilGaiman work for Man's World shelf? Some of the editions are less than 200 pages but the Kindle one I'm reading now says 259 pages.

message 581: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments As long as one edition is over 200 pgs that's good enough Skandia.

message 582: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 585 comments Does anyone know if The Shadows (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #13) by J.R. Ward has mostly male POV?

message 583: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments Logan, I've asked Lee, who's just finished reading it, the question. We'll have to wait & see what she says, unless someone else pipes up first. Lee is in England, so not sure what the time difference is.

message 584: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25914 comments Logan, Lee said it was 75/25 male POV, so go ahead and read it :)

message 585: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 585 comments Thanks for checking Sandra!

message 586: by D.G. (new)

message 590: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Heres a look at the bingo stats and where everyone stands.
We added another 2 teams to the potential winner list. Sadly Teams 3 & 8 are still without 4 in a row.

Team 1: blue/purple, black/gray
Team 2: yellow/orange, UF
Team 4: witches, vampires
Team 5: vampires
Team 6: Sci-Fi genre
Team 7: leather or lace
Team 9: witches, Sci-Fi genre
Team 11: yellow/orange
Team 12: UF
Team 13: armed & ready
Team 14: Sci-Fi genre

Of the shelves left to call
4 are not winners and will continue the game for another week

New2You Author
New2You Series
white/beige/pink
red

5 shelves assure a shut-out victory with only 1 team as a potential winner
blue/purple: Team 1
black/gray: Team 1
leather or lace: Team 7
1st, 2nd or 3rd: Team 10
armed & ready: Team 13

5 shelves will mean a race to the finish with more than 1 team in the running
yellow/orange: Team 2 & Team 11
UF: Team 2 & Team 12
witches: Team 4 & Team 9
vampires: Team 4 & Team 5
Sci-Fi genre: Team 6, Team 9 & Team 14

message 593: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Thanks, Danielle. Maybe I need one of those jackets like the ESPN Sportscenter guys wear? ... hmmm ... smh, Nah. I'm not a dark sports jacket kind of gal. I'll stick to my colors and patterns.

message 594: by D.G. (new)

No. I just checked the BSB history thread and we've had 14 called until a winner. 11-12 looks to be average.
