"Woah!" Kira exclaimed as the order appeared. "Where did that come from?" She grins up at him, then answers, "Yup!" This was a good excuse. This would explain a bit of her odd behavior. "I lived in the country and we provided for ourselves."
Chandler lifts his eyebrows quite surprised. "Hey, you wanna, come sit down?" Maybe she might need someone to talk to, she is from outside of the grid. She probably doesn't know anyone.
Kira's eyes widen a fraction. She nods and picks up her order. Then she walked back to where he was sitting. Ok, elaborate lie, she thought. That's what she needed. Something that explained her complete ignorance of pretty much everything. Her mind drew a blank as she sat down.
As Chandler sat down, he totally regretted the idea of talking to her. What would he say, he never really liked the cliché, 'So tell me about yourself' saying. He thought for a moment and sipped on his cooled down coffee.
Kira took a sip of her drink, making a face as it burnt her tongue. Then she took a bite of the sandwich she'd ordered. To travel through the time machine, it was required that she fast for 2 days, so this was the only food she's had in the last few days. "Where am I?" She asked. She figured this was a safe enough question. For all she knew, Russia had taken over the world and she was in an extension of Russia.
"You really don't know anything do you?" He asked with a giggle, he was smiling quite brightly. "Anyways, this is the United Union, I'm not sure if you will understand any of this but.. the world has split into 3 parts. The United Union, Which is Canada, United States, Australia, The Uk, Germany and most of the pacific Islands." He pauses for a moment to sip his drink, he gulped and continued. "Then there is Most of Europe and Asia, they are called the Eastern Standard Union, and last of all there is the Soviet-Korean Union, which is North Korea, Russia and the Czech Republic." He blew his own mind, surprised he actually remembered anything from his Social Studies class.
"The United Union?" Kira repeats, shocked. Woah, a lot can happen in a little less than a hundred years. "That's..." She searched for the correct word. "Amazing. So we really managed to take over Germany?" Her mind flashes to World War 2, where Germany seemed so big and frightening. "Or... Who took over who to create it?"
"Hey why don't you head on over to my home, my keeper doesn't mind visitors, I can tell you all I know." He said with a grin, hoping she'll accept.
"Yeah." Kira said after a moment of hesitation. This would be the perfect opportunity to catch up on the times. She quickly finished her sandwich and drink. She was honestly surprised that she'd managed to meet someone so easily in such an unfamiliar place.
Chandler grabbed his drink along with hers and throws them into the garbage. "Just follow me.. Stay close." He pressed the pad on door opening it, stepping out of the café, buildings towering them. He nods towards the side walk signaling for her to follow.
Kira nods and follows him out of the building. She follows him to the sidewalk, looking around once again now that the shock of it all was out of her mind. Everything looked pretty much the same as her time, just slight subtle differences. For instance: the pads on the doors and the cars were quieter and just somehow different. Her guess was that they were more environment friendly than the ones that were in her time.
The streets and side walks flooded with people "Rush hour." He tries to talk over all the noise. He pushes through the crowds disappearing into the crowds of people.
Kira's eyes widen slightly at the masses of people. She heard him try to say something over the noise, but she couldn't hear him. Realizing that he'd disappeared while she was looking around, she shoves her way through the crowd until she was behind him once again. Then she reached out and hooked her index finger into the back of his shirt so they wouldn't get separated again.
Chandler turned and grinned, grabbing her finger from the back of his shirt and gripping onto it. He slowly grabs onto more fingers as they walk through the streets. Eventually gripping onto her whole hand guiding her through the city.
Kira's eyes widen slightly when he grabs her hand. Her mother had always said to grab onto a hem of clothing so you didn't get separated in a crowd, and she'd been expecting him to either ignore her or tell her to back off, not grab her hand. Not that she was complaining at all.
Chandler pushed his way out of the masses of people into a suburb, white shiny houses lined side by side down the whole street. Forgetting he has hold of her hand, he turns quickly accidentally whipping her around. He lets out a girly giggle and quickly covers his mouth, not expecting it to sound so girly.
Kira laughs slightly at his high pitched laugh, covering her own mouth when she snorted. Then she looked at him, seeing him in the exact same position, and she couldn't help but break into a fit of laughter. Her hand drops from her mouth as she gradually gained control again.
Chandler smiles brightly "Deep breathes Deep Breathes." He says also trying to calm down. "The house is right her, I'll show you around." He felt so comfortable around her, like instinct he just grabbed her hand leading her inside. As he pushed the pad his keeper was standing in the hall adjusting some tilted paintings. "Hey Lucille." He said beginning to introduce his new friend. "Lucille this is, this is." He paused for a moment noticing he hadn't even got her name. He kind of bent over and asked softly "What's your name?"
"Kira." She informed him. She was still smiling slightly from her fit of laughter outside and she realized she had a tear resting unnoticed on her cheek. She quickly wiped it away, then looked up at him. "What's yours?" She asked.
Chandler responded. "Chandler, my names Chandler." He said with a grin, "Well Kira, this is my keeper Lucille." he said.
"Chandler." Kira echoes under her breath, knowing she'd probably forget it later. Then she smiled warmly at Lucille. "Hello." She says brightly. "It's nice to meet you."
Lucille Responds "Nice to meet you, Kira.""Well, we'll be upstairs working on a social studies project." He leads Kira upstairs, they walk down the hall and turn into a room. It's an ordinary room, a bed a desk with computer, a few books and a closet. n the corner a sleeping dog snoring quite loudly. "Well this where the magic happens." He fakes a grin and cringes at such a cliché joke.
Kira raises an eyebrow at his lame attempt at a joke. "Ok then." She says. "So you promised to tell me what you know?" She prods. She sits cross legged on the floor, looking up at him expectantly.
Chandler sits on the edge of his bed looking down to her. "Well, what do you want to know?" He asks as he stretches to open his night stands drawer, successfully opening it, he pulls out a bag of skittles, an authentic candy from the 2000's.
"Woah!" Kira exclaimed. "There's still skittles?" Then her eyes widen and her face flushed as she realized that she'd screwed up. She looked down at the floor, then tried to change the subject before he had a chance to think too much about it. "Um, who's president? Or is it a monarchy now?"
Chandler's facial expressions when blank. "Still skittles? What do you mean 'still' skittles?" Emphasis on the word Still. He sticks his hand in the bag and puts one in his mouth.
"Nothing!" Kira said, perhaps too quickly. "Just a slip of the tongue, that's all." She laughs, trying to pass it off as a joke, but it sounds mechanical and high pitched even to her own ears.
He looks at her with a confused look, he doesn't even want to bring up what he is thinking. A time traveler? He can't just ask her if she's was a time traveler. He'd be considered crazy. "Okay.. want one?" He says holding out the bag of skittles.
"Of course!" She says, dropping the ridiculous laugh. She reaches out and takes one out of the bag, popping it in her mouth. "I love these things." She comments. "So? Is it a monarchy or a democracy?"
Chandler stares at the floor, totally disconnected from what's happening. He shakes his head. "It's a- a democracy." He says with a lazy sounding voice.
"Democracy." She nods, storing the information away in her mind for later use. "Who's the president and what number president is he?"
"Samantha Renolds." He says then tops thinking for a moment. "54th.. I think." He wasn't sure if I he was correct or not.
"Samantha?" Kira echoes. "So he's a girl?" In her time, there had been no girl presidents, though there were a few who felt bold enough to run. "Is she the first?"
"The first girl president? Ha, no. She's the 4th." He says. He looks to his open closet and sees a board game selector. "Wanna play a game?" He asks. He didn't like just talking about political things. He wanted to have some fun.
"The 4th..." Kira says, zoning out for a moment. Then she snaps back to attention, looking up at him. "Yeah sure." She says. "What do you have?"

"Well, there's this thing called a board selector, and you get to choose any game you can imagine." He says with a voice you'd use to teach a child. He pulls down the device laying it in front of her. He sits down.
Kira looks up at him with wide eyes, then stares at the device when it was placed in front of her. "How do you use it?" She asked. She wanted to touch it, but she didn't want to accidentally break it or something.
He pushes a button on the side. A hologram image appears. He slides through a list of games on the hologram with his fingers. "C'mon, try it." He says with a grin.
"Woah, that's cool!" Kira exclaimed, a grin lighting her face. She reaches up and slides through the games like he had. After a moment, she stopped being amazed at the hologram and started looking at the games. She recognized none of them.
"Any games that look interesting?" He asks her. He had eyed a certain game as she scrolled through hoping she'd pick it.
"Ummm..." Kira said, still looking through the list. She debated trying to bluff her way out of it, but then decided to just tell the truth. It wasn't like she hadn't made herself look stupid already. "I don't recognize any of them." She admitted.
"So what you're trying to say is, you've never played a board game?" He asks extremely confused. She seems to know nothing.
"No, I have." Kira protests immediately. "I just haven't..." Kira stopped when she realizes she screwed up again. Now she had to explain why she hadn't played any board games of this time. "Played any of these." She finishes.
"You haven't played any classics like, Long John or Squirt?" He asks. "The arcade!?!" Man she really was missing out, these games are great classics.
Kira laughed softly. "Classics?" She muttered. Then she flushed. Gosh, she had to get better at hiding the fact she was from the past. "No, I haven't..."
