The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival
Soul of a Tiger: A Miraculous True Story of a Family Who Survived the Cambodian Genocide
Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother

I haven't read any but they could be interesting as non-fiction options.

Those do sound interesting, especially the "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom." Thanks.

Anshita (_book_freak) | 272 comments I am listening to Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively. This book had the word 'Tiger' in the title and piqued my interest.

message 56: by Kristen (new)

Kristen I'm going with 1999: A Novel of the Celtic Tiger and the Search for Peace by Morgan Llewellyn

LeahS | 532 comments I read Tiger by Polly Clark which happened to be on the New Books shelf in my local library. The tigers in the book are Siberian tigers and the book moves between the viewpoints of a keeper at a private English zoo, a Russian working on a makeshift tiger sanctuary in Siberia, a Udeghe woman and her daughter and the tigers themselves. I thought the England sections were the weakest part, but the sections set in Siberia were compelling and gave real insight into life there for both people and animals. I would recommend.

My personal favorite is Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat.
Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat (Calvin and Hobbes #9) by Bill Watterson

Jille | 4 comments The Tiger Rising is on my TBR.

message 61: by Trish (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) I'd like to put in another recommendation for When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain (and The Empress of Salt and Fortune, which works for both 5. Sapphic and 27. Hugo winner).

Nghi Vo was one of my best author finds last year.

message 63: by Drakeryn (new)

Drakeryn | 708 comments Thinking of reading Yoon Ha Lee's Tiger Honor, which is middle-grade sci-fi based on Korean mythology. (It's book 2 in the series, after Dragon Pearl, which I haven't yet read but have heard a lot of good things about)

message 64: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 7 comments I was just reading The Guardian's list of 25 best Australian books of 2021, and spotted that Wild Abandon Wild Abandon by Emily Bitto by Emily Bitto has a tiger on the cover - I think that will be my pick.

Meeann Dingman | 3 comments I saw some others have already mentioned How Much of These Hills is Gold, but also adding The Orphan Master’s Son.

I am currently reading When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain and I want to reassure anyone who is holding off on reading it because it is #2 in a series. It truly is a stand-alone, I'm enjoying it very much and I don't feel like I'm missing anything for not having read the first book. It's a lot of fun. It's mythopoeic. There are talking tigers. There is a mammoth. The main character is NB. Plus, it's SHORT!

And it's all about tigers! Tiger on the cover, tiger in the title, tigers are some of the main characters! Win win win WIN!!

With the character being NB, would this also work for 37. A Book About Gender Identity?

I absolutely also recommend Empress of Salt and Fortune for another prompt (I used it for Hugo because nothing else caught my eye in that prompt) because it is GOOD. I'm eager to dive into that one very soon.

Ron | 2752 comments I was looking through my personal library and one came to mind which sure enough I had:

I guess that depends on how you approach that category. The book isn't really about gender identity. The main character just is NB, it's got nothing to do with the plot and it is never mentioned, but their pronouns are they/them.

Jacqueline | 407 comments Just listened to Cinnamon by Neil Gaiman. Cinnamon by Neil Gaiman There's a Tiger on the cover. Also the Tiger is one of the main characters. And it didn't take all day to get done.

message 72: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 608 comments I ended up reading The Tiger's Wife. I had it on my list last year for the Woman's prize in fiction but, just never ended up reading it. I guess somehow I sensed that I'd need it this year. *shrug*

message 73: by Beth (new)

Beth | 7 comments I read The Night Tiger. I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys magical realism.

message 74: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (sunny_reader_girl) Today I'm starting When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller , for this category but also my Newbery winner reading list! Such a gorgeous cover.

message 75: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 34 comments I read The Tiger Queens: the Women of Genghis Khan and really enjoyed it.

I actually read The Secret History of the Mongol Queens: How the Daughters of Genghis Khan Rescued His Empire first, which is one of the non-fiction history references used by Stephanie Marie Thornton to write The Tiger Queens. Her books stays very close to fact, but then fills in some of the gaps with creative storytelling. It's told from 4 POVs and I felt it flowed seamlessly between the different women.

Ron, you might check out my last post above. I know you're also doing the Book Riot challenge and I read The Secret History of the Mongol Queens: How the Daughters of Genghis Khan Rescued His Empire for that challenge (prompt to read a history from a time you know little about) and then read The Tiger Queens: the Women of Genghis Khan for this challenge's prompt. This one is fiction, but I thought they paired pretty well.

message 77: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2752 comments Thanks, Jaime.

message 81: by Patricia (new)

Life of Pi
Aru Shah and the End of Time

message 82: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Dauer-Creek | 4 comments Would Tigress (the female version of Tiger) be acceptable in the title? I'm thinking of reading The Red Tigress by Amelie Wen Zhao soon.

I personally would count that if there wasn't anything else that interested me.

Felicia | 156 comments The Tiger Came to the Mountains
This one is very good short story. It can also work for the prompt for a book you can read in one sitting.

Thanks for this recommendation, Jaime. I ended up reading The Tiger Queens: the Women of Genghis Khan for this prompt and loved it. Of course, I have The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories coming in at the library, so now I have to find somewhere to put that...

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) I have finished the audiobook of The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne.

message 88: by Denise (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments I finally decided to stop putting off Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris, which has a tiger’s tail on the cover.

Dead Ever After (Sookie Stackhouse, #13) by Charlaine Harris

Dedra ~ A Book Wanderer (abookwanderer) | 191 comments I read Tigers, Not Daughters for this prompt, and it's my third book by the author. I read it in one day, so it's a quick read, but so beautifully written. It would also work for 'a book about the afterlife', 'read in one sitting', and 'Latinx author' prompts.

message 92: by Ron (new)

Ron | 2752 comments Maybe stretching this a little but How to Make Friends with the Dark has a character with the name Tiger so I figure I can use that.

Thoughts?

I would absolutely count that, if that's the character that is illustrated on the cover.
