These quotes show how she was breaking down from the remarks about her identity and eventually after a camp, feeling comfortable with it, calling people like her “Tidda'', a word that means sister, showing she accepted them as family. By the end of the story, Marlee has matured considerably and has changed her attitude towards her aboroginal identity.
In "There are no halves'' by Jason Gonian, Jason changes positively after overcoming adversity and getting encouragement from his biological family. After meeting and connecting with his biological family, he eventually decides to work to help aboriginals, saying at the end of the story, "Flash forward to today, I work for the government supporting Aboriginal communities." Originally, after the taunting, he was “embarrassed to be part of one of the oldest living cultures in the world” It shows how he has matured, going from embarrassed about it to accepting it and helping others. Jason has changed for the better by the end of the story and understands you can't have half an identity, even if you're half aboroginal.
