book about a girl who rides carousel really fast to go to another dimension

I'm looking for a book where a girl goes on a carousel and travels to another dimension (5th dimension I believe). That's all I really remember about the book. The same author wrote another book and all I remember is there was a pictures of kids on the front who find a time machine outside (I believe) that looks like an egg. I got this book around mid 90's. I think the author was a woman. Any help please???
