Everything I Don't Remember question

Okay so the book starts off with the main character in the military and they get a concert show from a singer for some entertainment. He was married to an army nurse but she died in an explosion (I think). He starts talking to the singer and they both really like each other. After he comes back to the states he connects with her and takes her on dates and they fall in love and the whole book is about them and their life after that point. They have 5-6 kids one of the kids is named Valerie(whom is a twin) and I think the youngest daughter is named Anna. One of their sons turns out to be gay and the father basically disowns him.
