Yes! I really enjoyed it. It went into some great depth tackling some serious issues but never lost the rom-com feeling.

YES! And this one is REALLY good! It's very "depth" too, not like what I expected with the set-up

I wish more people put some Smashwords titles on their wishlist. It costs me easily and hour, when I have to enter every desired title on Smashwords, before I find one they have available.

The 50% off shortly made me happy, but I am not going to buy my own TBR titles there. The Smashwords titles are on my Elfster list and I have tagged them on GR the year round to make sure I reserve them for this Exchange.

A quick way to check Hemmel is if the book is available on kindle unlimited it won’t be anywhere else. I believe those are the rules for authors putting books on the kindle unlimited program, it can only be on Amazon.
I’ve been lucky enough this year that my match is also an international and uses Smashwords too, so it’s made it easier 😉

Bookreader87(Amanda) (bookreader87) | 237 comments Anyone notice elfster had an update? I am not sure I am liking the new format of the wish list. 🤨 Also doesn't show email address in profile like before. Should make note to add it to wish list section. Just makes things harder for me 😖

oh good to know! I'm on the library waiting list for it, but I don't think there's any way it's coming through before voting ends and it's a conundrum!! I've been having good success with angsty romcoms lately, though, so that actually sounds promising

That's a good point, Hemmel, and now I feel guilty because I realized I've been doing the opposite. Most of my wish list isn't available on Smashwords, and I keep most of what is available there off this exchange on purpose since I always get paired internationally in the m/m group's Secret Santa and I try to save those options for that list. D'oh. I wonder if there's some way to make a note when a book is available both places...

Last year, I asked people to share Smashwords titles, but nobody answered. I have made two shelves, 'Not on Smashwords' and 'Smashwords Elfster Wishlist' , for everyone using Smashwords.

message 72: by Sheri (new)

Sheri | 646 comments Huh? I never heard anything about ARe not treating their authors fairly? We used them a lot for book giveaways…back in “Boys in our Books” blogging days. And my own personal library with them was massive!! Remember the Easter hunts? Good times.

Guess I’m not familiar with fictionwise…it was a B&N thing?

I don’t know why I don’t use smashwords more? Suppose I forget? Enjoy your weekend read Hemmel.

Sheri | 646 comments We are only one week in and it’s been SO MICH FUN ALREADY!!
Real quick:
I wanted to quick share a couple of tips as we have many new faces this year (yay!) and experience has taught me a few things.

First- Add alllll the books you can possibly wish for to your wishlist. Yep, I’m serious. There is no limit and lengthy lists are FUN. Don’t be shy, the more the better. Go click crazy!! 🤩

Second- I know it might be easier to copy and paste Amazon wish list links but it’s better to add each book. Yes I know, this takes time. But Amazon lists links don’t always work well. AND wishlists have improved and you don’t need to search on Elfster for each book, you can copy the link from the desired vendor (Amazon, smashwords, etc…) and simply paste it in the search box and it brings up the book. Voila! It’s that easy and makes life sooo much easier for elves on the hunt.

Third- Add a range of book prices. If you only have higher end priced books on your list or box sets and collections, you might not have as many elves that are able to splurge on extra gifts for you. There’s a handy “most wanted” button that you can click (most likely for your secret Santa) for those double digit priced books you’re hoping your “match” picks for you.

And finally, a lesson I’m learning this year, add some selections from multiple vendors…to accommodate elves all over the world!
🧝‍♀️🧝‍♂️🥰

Very solid advice.
I do feel limited with sticking within my own Country because of the difficulty with vendors. I love when there are options. I need to be better at listing other vendors as well 😂

True! That's the beauty of this event...making new online friends. Every year I pick up a few. So happy last year you were one of them 😁

M'rella (mrella) | 792 comments FictionWise was an independent seller before 2009, when B&N bought it out and eliminated the competition.
B&N offered to transfer FW cusotmers' libraries to their platform and then failed miserably, ignoring requests to look into failed transfers.

Elfster has changed its format for me! I also cannot see anyone's email address! Is anyone currently having the same issue? I even checked the app on my phone and its the same as the desktop version.

Ahhh, you know, I *do* remember that. Thanks for the link.
Yeah, it was unfortunate to the authors that the last quarter wasn't paid in full. I guess I had the DSP drama on my mind when you mentioned that.

Zach | 38 comments Apropos of nothing, has anyone else started using Storygraph? It’s goodreads-like, but is more reader-focused. No community function (yet), but it allows people to create and join group book challenges, and does crowdsourced trigger warnings. Also you can rate things with half-stars.

@Zach I have imported my shelves and books there (you can export your GR library and import it there) but things need fixing and I haven't gotten the time yet. Once I do, around Christmas, it will be another place for me to leave reviews apart from BB and GR especially for the ARCs ^^
