SOLVED. children story collection feat savage sam and a story about a guy turning into a dog [s]

I remember reading this back in early 2000's as a collection of stories but pages were missing and what sticks in my head is there was a story featuring Savage Sam and another where a guy turns into a dog at random times but trying to get with this girl and he ends up turning into a dog at some party?? it had darker cover and hardback with ink/woodcut illustrations? soon as I see the cover I'll know it but it had many other stories and I've been trying to find this again for years

I don't have a particular book in mind and this is a little bit of a guess and may be completely off base- but I know that Disney made a film of Savage Sam and the story about the guy turning into a dog reminds me of the Disney film The Shaggy Dog. Could it have been some collection of Disney stories or even specifically Disney dog stories?

I was looking into that I don't think so . . . it was part of a collection and I vaguely want to say there was an Aesop's fable in there??

no, they were not by the same author and I don't remember them being scary? And I believe it was a stand alone collection of folk tales or fairy tales or something

The more I think about it the collection might have been a sampling of various books?? especially regarding the Savage Sam part because I think it was just a section of the original chapter book . . . ?

It has Savage Sam, and I think the other story you're describing is The Shaggy Dog.

I've come across that a few times and I don't think so . . . there was a Jack London-esque story as well with a scene of snowy stuff.

Oh wow okay I was browsing through and a few illustrations triggered some memories so yeah I must've had one copy without the true Disney style cover or something. Thanks for the help!
