David was spot on. At first I thought Riley was going to be like the assistant in Hot Blooded. However, it didn't take long to figure out that she was too immature for the position. She wants to be boss and did too much without discussing it. We find her type in all industries. Good instincts but can't take direction.
David obviously could see her willfulness early on and his instincts were certainly dead on. Riley never respected the “chain of command” and him being former military, I’m sure David recognized the signs. It was reckless for her to supplant her judgment over those with more experience, especially when Max was painstakingly clarifying why what she wanted to do was inappropriate.
No, he wasn’t too hard on her. But, I don’t believe there was anything he could have done to change her behavior.

Riley was not ready for so much responsibility. David could see this. She didn't listen to Max about what exactly she could or could not do. David could see that Riley was not mature enough to handle the job at this time. I don't think he was too hard on her. She needed to listen to Max and David and not go running off doing her own thing.
David just knew that Riley was destined to get in trouble and he was right. I know Riley - she was me. She has so much drive, initiative and ideas. Reigning her in was a tough job for Max who loves her drive, initiative and ideas, but had to find a try to find a way to develop in Riley the instinct and maturity it took Max years to develop.
David's instincts were correct. I have learned in the short time in this series that David is someone you can trust. Riley wants to be just like Max and I had a feeling it was going to get her into trouble. You ever have that impulse to yell at a character? I did when Riley went back to that hospital.
I was screaming at her, Melissa. Up until then, I was trying desperately to give her the benefit of the doubt.
Yes, to all of our instincts about Riley and about David's trustworthiness. At one point, though, I actually thought that the author wrote Riley's trip back to the hospital poorly. It seemed so elementary and I wanted Riley to have thought her actions through better than that.
