I read the prologue or first chapter of this book that was sent to me in a promotional packet from a publisher. I only had this first part, not the whole book! This was around 3 years ago. There was a girl on a merchant or trader ship (not sure if she was related to anyone on board or not) and she was getting ready to go ashore and make a deal for the first time by herself. There were people on land who were infected with a plague or something. The people not infected referred to them as the dead, but they weren't like flesh eating zombies. I think the girl even ran into one of them and the woman helped her pick stuff up....maybe?? LOL

Can you remember which publisher sent it to you? I'm guessing that they sent it because it was a new / upcoming release, so would have been published around 2018?

Definitely not The Forest of Hands and Teeth, but the sequel The Dead-Tossed Waves did take place near the water. Don't remember a ship, though.

@Kris The girl was mid to late teens I believe. I am Nine sounded promising, but that wasn't it. :( Thank you tho
