Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Okey dokey! There are all my books so far -- I may have one more in a couple hours... Use them as you will. I did NOT do Oct. BOMs. I had to return them to the library. I may still read them at some point.

Looking forward: I have an X & both Nov. BOMs + some definite horror tags....

Snezana | 339 comments Hello team!

Sorry I haven't checked in this week, I've been sick for the past few days, but I'm feeling better now. Because of that I've read less than I planned. I'm going to finish Jade City today and I have one other book that I read last week that can be used if needed. I wasn't going to put it in the spreadsheet cause it's on the shorter side, but I was too unwell to read the longer books I planned.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Snezana, go ahead and add it! Looks like we will be well under our 100%+ allowance so any point is a good point!

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Just a quick morning check in as I work on the spreadsheet - We are almost done with our 6th spell out - just need one more R completed! Everything else will go towards a 7th incomplete spellout.

Please make sure EVERYTHING is added to your wheel shelf! That will speed things up and help immensely for your captains.

We have about 8 hours left until check-in so we have a little time to read and still get some books in. We currently have 63 books, 7 under where we were last round so we have room!

message 210: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I'll finish an R book this morning. Also am reading another that I think I can finish in time.

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments If you are done for Round 2, I've got Round 3 up and ready to start claiming.

message 213: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments About to finish my last book in a couple of hours that will fit R,M,E,A,P. I will put my Round 3 books in a bit.

Just wondering, should we edit the bonus points box on the top blue corner?

message 214: by Kate (last edited Nov 06, 2021 07:17AM) (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments We have to finish checking all the genre tags first and then we will make sure the count is right. Thanks Alyana!

message 218: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments Thanks all for being amazing and having everything on your shelves - I honestly don't think I have ever done a check where everyone had everything on the shelves the first time around. Fantastic!

message 219: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Done with my two books! Lovely morning reading, haven't had that in a while :)

message 220: by Kate (new)

Kate (kcbond) | 643 comments We are all checked in!

Thank you all for a great round 2 - so far we are staying very consistent with 70 books read for each round so far at about 105.66%.

We still have a little wiggle room for a few more books so let's see if we can get to 76 books read (114.7%).

Great job everyone - now enjoy a few hours off before we go EXPLORING!

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1723 comments Kate wrote: "Hi Lauri, I'm adding these all now! Thank you!"

Thanks so much! I'll post as I go along this round -- promise!

For round 3 I have Feathered Serpent by Xu Xiaobin for the illusive X! Also All the Flowers in Shanghai, Meg for horror, Daisy Jones & The Six and the 2 BOMs...

I'm working on a couple of whoppers, too, but I'll keep them under my hat because I don't know when I'll finish them. Fingers crossed!

Feathered Serpent by Xu Xiaobin All the Flowers in Shanghai by Duncan Jepson Meg (Meg, #1) by Steve Alten Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Peg | 88 comments So I'm deep in the realization the many reasons I loved my previous library system. A month into this move and a new library, I am discovering how much I underappreciated the quick delivery of books to my branch (and the fact that this system does not even have ebooks, and audio only on cd). Sigh. As I adjust, I had to adjust my projected books as they have not come in yet. I substituted one X, that at least kept that the same, but I was hoping to get one more. If by chance it comes in, I will tackle it. At over 800 pages it will be a well earned task if I get it! I will be checking daily!
I'm glad I still have my old card still active for ebooks and audio, it's just the one that I'm waiting on is highly recommended in paper form. Figures, lol!

message 227: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments Just added A Spell for Chameleon. It does have mpg children's middle grade/children's. I checked ARbookfinder and the word count is 110,284, exceeding the requirement of 40,000. I wasn't sure where to place this to show verification so if I need to add it in the spreadsheet somewhere, please let me know.

Hi Peg, are you using libby for your library books? I think you can still use your previous library for ebooks/audiobooks when you use it with libby.

message 229: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments I am. I have still been using it and plan on putting a change of address in close to my card's expiration date to my son's house who still lives out there to try and keep it active. I think it was a shock on how vastly different these 2 systems are, especially when I want to support my local library the most.

I noticed that with my libraries too, like one library has only one copy and the other one has multiple copies.

Thanks for letting us know, that should be enough :)

message 233: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Honestly one of the best things about moving here was that I now have access to the library's overdrive here... large city in North America = large library = extensive overdrive access!

Quite a difference to my German library trying their best to offer even a little bit to all the internationals in the city.

message 235: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments i love how every year i've only read like 10 books across all the categories and yet every year i'm still surprised lol

message 236: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I've been pretty good the past few years but this year I've just not been reading much in general and especially not new releases and I also don't think I've loved more than... two or three books I've read. It's a bad year in many ways... I've read about 10 (mostly in the romance category) and there are only like 3 more books nominated across all categories I'm even interested in?

message 237: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments I have read quite a few of the nominees this year. I've loved some of them and the others are just okay.

I agree the larger cities have great systems in place. I unfortunately went the other way. When it comes to books though, there is always a way! lol

message 239: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments I've been so far behind reading this year, I haven't read the majority of the nominations. Some though are categories I rarely read, although I keep trying to push myself to broaden my reading. That's why I join challenges like the wheel!

Snezana | 339 comments As for Goodreads awards, I won't bother to vote this year. They seem to be getting worse every year. Who decides the nominees and by what criteria? There isn't even the write in option this year. It's just a popularity contest at this point.

i always vote anyway just for fun but i agree that generally you can look at the nominees from the first round and go 'oh well that one's going to win' because really it's just like 'who's the most well known or hyped author this year'

Totally agree. I like reviewing the nominees because I always find a few titles to add to my TBR, but I don't give any credence to the winner really.

message 247: by Alyana (new)

Alyana | 1064 comments I know!! It seems like all the worst categories and tags are given to us!

message 248: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments space opera BELOVED (brown sucks though)

if anyone has the American edition of The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, that covers all bases (and is also EXCELLENT)

message 249: by Devann (new)

Devann (devannm) | 2778 comments so is our word brown AND we're supposed to find brown covers as well? so much brown lol

message 250: by Peg (new)

Peg | 88 comments Lol, that was my thought Devann! I'm ok with space opera genre, it's just the B and W letters. Although now looking I have plenty of B's ready to go. They don't fit the tags though. I'll have to check for Judy's recommendation (THANK YOU!), it does look good.
