I found a series that released the first book in the series as a 3 book boxset exclusive.

The current cover of the book states that it is a prequel, but I can't find any official source of this cover which makes me think it's fanmade.

Author official page still lists it as book #1.

Also if book #1 was only released as part of the boxset it shouldn't even have its own page.

The cover is very similar to the one the author has on her site, so probably not fan-made. Nonetheless, it does not appear to have ever been sold separately (and I found many sources that explicitly stated it was only ever available as part of the boxset), so merge with boxset is now pending.
