Josiah Austin | 4 comments I'm trying to remember an old children's book about a boy who is afraid of the Boogeyman. In the end he overcomes his fear. It's all black and white drawings, takes place mostly (maybe entirely) in his bedroom, and the drawings are all quite realistic looking, with shading and detail.
I remember there was a picture that had an aerial view of his room with his bed in the middle and he was pulling the sheets up close to his face. There's also another picture where he is standing on his bed with his arm and index finger pointed straight out, yelling at the Boogeyman to go away.
My mom bought it for us in the early 90s. If I were to guess the publishing date, I'd say between the 70s-early 90s.
Trying to find this book has been driving me nuts!!

Josiah, is this a picture book (about 32-48 pages) or a chapter book?

Are the black and white illustrations: simple or detailed / realistic or cartoon-like / pencil sketches, painted watercolors or bold graphics? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or children's author?

Josiah Austin | 4 comments This is a picture book. The illustrations are detailed pencil with shading, if I remember correctly. There are no colors in the book as far as I can remember.
As far as other illustrators, I can't think of any at the moment, but I'll update if I find any.

Buster and the Bogeyman?"

Nope, those are in color and the drawings are too simple. The picture book I'm thinking of had pretty realistic drawings- not nearly as cartoonish as the Peter and Buster books.
But thanks for checking!

That's it!!!
We had the Bye, Bye Boogieman version.
Apparently the cover is in color at least! Thank you so much, how did you find it?!
I've spent the last few weeks Googling it almost every day! 😅

Rainbowheart | 28711 comments Awesome, glad to help out!

I found it by searching Worldcat. I didn't have any luck with the usual spellings, so I decided to try "boogieman" and it came up.
