I’m trying to find a series of fantasy books I red over 10 years ago. This is what I remember. The hero became a deadly killer when he returned to his farm after leaving the army to find his wife and son’s dead, murdered by wandering criminals. Once he tracks down the killers over 15 years he becomes a legendary killer. At the series end he is dying having saved the world. On his final day, he is rewarded with a boon by being sent to the past just before the criminals attack. He manages to save “his” family and passes just before his young self returns from the war.
