Is there an original English equivalent to this book?

Hello everyone!
I have just finished my first master thesis on the translation of cultural references in The Years. As a French reader, I wanted to study the way this wonderful book has been translated, and I decided to focus on the various cultural elements.
For my second thesis, I would like to translate a text on my own and to do so I would like to find a original text similar to this one.
Do you know if an English-speaking author ever wrote a similar text? (at least regarding the cultural aspects)
